The white coastal kitchen is finally ready to reveal and I couldn’t be happier with the results. See it all right now!
For me, the combination of white cabinets, reclaimed wood, and shiplap just makes me so incredibly happy. It’s like a cheery smile in the morning when I walk out to make my cup of coffee. Let’s take a look at some of the before photos to get an idea where this all started.
I know, it wasn’t awful but it just felt very blah to me. The cabinets with the off white color and the glaze just made me feel like they used to be white but then yellowed. Not something I am crazy about. Plus, check out that bi-fold pantry door. The new door is so much better don’t you think?
Painting the island black really grounded it in the space and gave it a touch of drama. I can’t state enough how much lighting makes a difference. Scroll back up and take a look at the builder basic pendant lights. Pretty dull right? I went a little over-sized and would recommend that for a more modern up-to-date look.
I added an oriental runner I found at Tuesday Morning to the space and I love how much it pulls a little color into the space. I’m loving this trend right now.
I don’t know that a white coastal kitchen would be complete without a sea glass inspired something. I decided the lamp gives it a little bit of the coastal feel I love so much without screaming coastal.
I pulled in some minty green by using this crate to corral some of my cooking tools. I keep olive oil in the bottle, a salt and pepper grinder, and a sugar bowl in this crate. Everything is at my fingertips while I am cooking and it doesn’t look like a mess on my counters.
To be honest, I really struggled with styling this for photographs. In my real life, when I have my kitchen the way I want, my counters are pretty clear. I don’t like a lot of extras on my counters even though there is quite a bit on them in this photo shoot.
The pantry door might be my favorite change in this kitchen next to painting the cabinets. I cannot tell you what a change it is to have a real door rather than a bi-fold door. Not only does it look so much better but it functions so much better too.
I painted the cabinets with my favorite paint, Fusion Mineral Paint. It was so easy. I will link the tutorial below if you are in the market for painting your cabinets. I love the long twisted hardware on the drawers.
It took me forever to decide on some counter stools. I thought I would recycle the ones I have by reinventing them in some creative way, but when I took them out of the space I knew I wanted a more low profile look. These stools came in a dark stain and I painted them with Behr’s Weathered Moss using a DIY chalk paint method.
So far I love my open shelving. I wondered if they would look messy to me but so far I love the look and the dishes we often use don’t gather any dust.
It was a long time coming, but it feels so good to finally have a kitchen I love. I think the key to my success in this kitchen was that I did everything I wanted to do and didn’t let people talk me out of it. Believe me, I got some sideways looks when I said I wanted to shiplap and use reclaimed wood in the kitchen. I’m so happy I followed through.

OK Nancy, your kitchen reveal was worth the wait! It all turned out so gorgeous and I love that it is so unique! Painting the cabinets made such a huge difference and really lets your kitchen shine. On a side note, I don’t know why it has taken me so long to realize that your home is the same model as the one my parents built three years ago when they moved down here to FL to be closer to us. It’s a great, open floor plan and I think the way you have furnished it is fabulous. I especially love what you have done with your master bedroom, just stunning. Every time I read your blog I find myself wishing we were neighbors, I think we would have the absolute best time shopping and decorating together!
Thank you so much Lexi! It probably is the same model as your parent’s home. I can’t remember the model name but the builder was D.R. Horton. It is a really open floorpan which can be great and not so great. If anything is kinda messy it makes the whole place look messy. My master bedroom is on deck actually for a little makeover. A lot of it is going to stay the same but I’m going to pull in some of the elements I love in the rest of the house (shiplap, weathered wood, hits of black). I’m sure we would have a blast shopping. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone I wouldn’t want to shop with…HELLO!

I learned the hard way in the last house we lived in to go with what I wanted, not what the builder or his design team recommended. For eight years I lived with beige carpet that I hated because, “beige is better for resale…” Your updated kitchen looks bright and cheery. Your new “old” pantry door is also my favorite part.
