The Welcoming Thanksgiving Table

Ahhh….the appeal of a beautifully set Thanksgiving table.  A time for those gathered around it to share memories, laugh, and enjoy wonderful food.  It’s a beautiful thing.  Everyone is dressed in perfect fall attire.  All the kids are laughing and giggling and happy to be at the grown up table.  Everyone looks to the matriarch with a loving gaze at the beautiful table and time that has been created.  If this is your house…lucky you.

I come from a strong German background where the women in my family have a no-nonsense attitude about getting jobs done.  We charge through the work of making the meal with high efficiency, very little talking, and a strong work ethic.  It’s a hurry up atmosphere in the kitchen.

You want to know my favorite part?  Setting the Thanksgiving table.  It’s true.  So today, I thought I would share some of my favorite fall tables found on my friend Lory from Designthusiam’s recent blog hop called Styled & Set.  Want to see some beautiful tables to inspire you to create the table of your dreams?  Come along for the ride.

First up, Lory’s table.  She has a beautiful formal style that I adore.  I imagine children sitting at this table with perfect manners.  No one at this table would exclaim, “I don’t like that white stuff on my green beans!”

Next is Yvonne’s table from Stonegable.  Her Al Fresco dining is right up my alley.  Kids could run around and play tag five minutes after they sit down because that’s about as long as they’ll sit and eat.  Then the grown ups could sip wine and watch them wear themselves out.

This next table by Kelley Nan is just drop dead gorgeous.  You know how much I adore blue and white.  Throw in some fall colors and a little bit of yellow and I go all googly eyes.  This is my dream table.

This next table by Tamara from Citrine Living is incredible.  It has such a nice formal feel and you should see her dark and refreshing dining room.  So pretty.

This table from Zevy Joy is so casual and welcoming.  I’m sure those that will gather around this table will feel a sense of relaxation as they sit down to dine.  Plus I’m just a little bit obsessed with her chandelier.  Ummm…yhea.  I could see that in my house couldn’t you?

All of these tables are beautiful in their own way.  They are so different from each other which is what I love.  You don’t have to go out and buy a bunch of new stuff to create a great looking Thanksgiving table.  The big trick?  More is more.  Try serving the food buffet style so you can pile on the pumpkins, candles, crystal, silver, blue and white pottery etc…whatever you have and love.

This year I think we will be doing a casual Al Fresco dining option that is low on fuss.

You see…

We sit down to eat the meal and everyone gobbles it down in 20 minutes flat.  In my mind I think, “Oh my gosh!  This took hours to make and it is gone in a matter of minutes.”  It’s our own special brand of Thanksgiving around here.  Fun in its own sort of weird way…but Pillsbury won’t be visiting to film a commercial anytime soon.
