Looking for a new pillow style? This is the post for you. I’ve gathered some inspiration and some pillows from small shops to help you achieve the new pillow style in your home.
One thing I love to do is look at trends in home decor and decide which of the trends I’m willing to hop on. Just like fashion, when you reach a certain age and “know” who you are and what looks good on you, you don’t fall for every trend. The new pillow style is a trend I am willing to take the leap for. So, what do I mean, a new pillow style? It’s simple. Let me show you.
There are no duplicates
This pillow trend departs from the idea that pillows should come in pairs. Notice on the photo above from Studio McGee, there are no duplicate pillows? They all coordinate but none of them are exact duplicates of each other.
Mix those patterns
Jenna Sue is so talented. Notice on the photo above, she has paired two windowpane prints, a small check, and a very small pattern in the dot pillow? Everything is simple and no single pattern steals the show? Following the new pillow style is keeping things simple and mixing larger scale patterns with smaller patterns with interest, but not letting a single print hog the limelight.
Size matters
Just like when creating a flower arrangement or a vignette, scaling size matters. Keeping all the flowers in an arrangement the same length would make for a pretty stark arrangement. The same holds true with the new pillow style. Notice the small, medium, large option? It helps your eye move through the space. Warning, don’t do it on the other side though too. Asymmetry is also part of the new pillow style. Three on one side, two on the other. Two large, two medium, and one lumbar. That’s the formula.
Support A Small Business
I wanted to put together some pillow collections from vendors on Etsy. In this time in our country, it’s important to support small businesses. Click on the link below each collection to visit the business’ Etsy page and create your own new pillow refresh.

Nancy, I really enjoyed your post! I love this new idea for displaying cushions! I have quite a collection of cushion covers so it will be interesting to work with these and not have a matchy matchy set(s) like I do now. You come up with such interesting ideas.
Hope you are keeping well. The virus has just hit our province. So, I think we have a long time before we see the “flattened curve” here. It is still cold and we are getting more snow tonight and tomorrow. However, I have added some touches of Spring to our home and have put new wreaths on our doors. Spring is such a wonderful time of the year when everything outside is coming to life — whenever that happens here! Last week, we had some Canada Geese on our frozen lake out in front of us. I just felt sorry for them. Then, we have some of our birds back at our feeders.
Poor birds, even they are all mixed up.
We continue to pray that a cure/vaccine will be discovered soon. Who would have thought that this horrible virus would have happened. These days are just full of so much uncertainty. However, we are fortunate that we are retired and can enjoy our home out here at the lake.
We actually have our home for sale but due to this virus, we probably won’t have anyone wanting to see it until life returns to normal — or the new normal. We really would like to move in closer to the city. However, we’ll see what the future holds for us.
Also, Nancy, I did not get a chance to comment on your last two posts — one of which was about your new shop you set up. So happy for you that you followed your heart! You will really enjoy having this and meeting so many interesting people. How fun to be able to change your décor — and then have others just wanting to take an item(s) home with them! Your things are so beautiful and will be flying off your shelves, I’m sure. I just wish I lived closer to you so I could come and browse! So fun! We don’t have too much like this here. We have a few antique shops and in the summer, there are always craft sales.
You have such a beautiful home, Nancy! It will be fun to keep shopping for the items you like and then move some items to your shop to sell! Such fun! I know you will do well with your shop.
Hope you have a nice Easter with your family. Take care!

Sad to hear the virus has hit near you but I am happy you have your place out of the hustle and bustle of it all. I have been finding great solace in being at home and I am enjoying the time with my family and working on projects there never really seems to be time for.
How exciting that you are selling. I’m sure it will sell as soon as things start to come back to normal. In hindsight this probably wasn’t the best time for me to open my little booth as the market has been closed now and who knows when people will venture out to shop for antiques when things calm down. Plus, so many people will have less expendable income. Oh well. I’m just trusting.
I do love this new pillow idea. I am going to put it into effect on my sofa. I ordered a new rug so as soon as I get it I will dream up a pillow situation for it.
Stay well my friend
