I don’t know what it is about pleated trim, but I just have to smile when I see it. Maybe I long for pleated trim because it reminds me of cute little girl dresses and I never had the chance to dress a little girl, or, maybe it just stems from my overall obsession with every textile. Done well, it can totally elevate the ordinary to the extraordinary. Like this pillow from Sarah Richardson…hello gorgeous.
If that pillow seems a little to foo foo for you, perhaps something more contemporary might do the trick. That sentence totally sounded Dr. Seuss to me, too. much. Dr. Seuss lately. Anyhow, sometimes the crisp edge of a knife edge pleat used in an unexpected way is just the ticket to send something right over the moon with style, like this chair from Anna at Absolutely Beautiful Things.
If you long for formal traditional furnishings, then have I got a curtain for you! This is a beauty with the pleat carried on the lead edge of the curtain and all the way through the top for just a little extra bit of show. Curtain from Huff and Dewberry.
If you don’t want to commit to pleated trim forever, maybe try a small project like the one Camila from Effortless Style did on a set of inexpensive cloth napkins. So cute! The possibilities for this are endless. Red and green for Christmas, black and orange for Halloween, red and pink for Valentine’s Day.
Using this pleated trim is so easy because someone already did all the hard work. I would never in a million years be able to get the pleats this perfect no matter how hard I tried. Luckily, I don’t have too! It comes on a roll already done like this one.
Lime green, polka dots, and pleated trim? Be still my heart. I have to think of a way to use this, it is just adorable. You could also mix it in with other textiles to create some great interest like the talented folks at Quatrine did on this pillow. I love all of that texture and mixing of patterns.
Maybe its my love for all things Jane Austen, or, perhaps it is because my beloved Downton Abbey is still not on, but I just had to end this post with a period. That is, a period piece. This dress has such beautiful pleated trim on it. For the day, I am sure this would have been a dress that others would have envied. I kind of envy it right now, but I don’t think it and hot Florida weather would mix well.
Hope you are having a great week!
Nancy

Hi, Do you have any information on the dress you posted at the bottom of this article with the pleated trim? I would love to be able to buy something similar but I can only find the picture no information of who created it, etc.
Thanks,
Wendy
