Okay, I have to admit I am usually pretty simple when it comes to lampshades. I like them white, off white, or, if I am feeling adventurous maybe a linen weave. Boring right? Uh huh, I know. Lately though, I have been loving all of the statement lampshades that are popping up. How about this stunner from Anthropologie??
If that is too colorful for you, maybe something simple like this next one. The tone on tone is beautiful and lit I am sure it adds even more texture and interest to any room. This shade is also from Anthropologie.
Of course I had to include a few coastal inspired lampshades. After all, I am looking to add a little more coastal decor into my home. I must admit this next lampshade is probably too graphic for me, but I can’t pass it by for its utter coolness. It is from Artanlei via Etsy
This next shade would look fabulous in a nautical themed bedroom, or, it would look great on a small accent lamp at the door of a coastal home. I love how the trim colors are repeated in the artwork on the shade. It really ties it all together, don’t you think?
I have added lampshade making onto my list of skills to learn. I was thrilled to receive the Lampshade Lady’s book over Christmas and have been spending as much time as I can manage studying her book.
The Lampshade Lady is actually Judy Lake, a custom lampshade maker located in Vermont. She makes lampshades (and teaches lampshade classes) out of her shop called Lake’s Lampshades. How fun would it be to take a class and make a lampshade? I would so love to do that! Judy collects all kinds of textiles to make lampshades from; quilts, vintage tablecloths, needlepoint fabric, and even vintage aprons. Many of her lampshades are one of a kind. I love the idea of having a lampshade wardrobe for a highly visible lamp in my home. My mother-in-law switches shades on one of her lamps for Christmas. So fun. I have gathered a collection of lampshades Judy has on her Etsy Shop.
Aren’t these shades great? I love this last train one. I think it would be adorable in a little boy’s bedroom. Her book shows step by step how to create simple lampshades all the way to the more complicated lampshades. I know I will be on the lookout for some great vintage textiles to use on a lamp of my own. Of course, she has so many great lampshades I may just have to purchase one of hers to hold me over until I have time to create one of my own.
I hope you are having a great week! If you live up North, I hope you are keeping warm 🙂
