This is hitting a little late on Tuesday because I spent most of my evening hanging my new curtains in the family room (Yay!). More to come on that transformation next week.
Today’s topic is using jute roping. It seems it is everywhere. I wanted to find a way to use it in my home in a way that gave it more of a coastal feel rather than an industrial feel and this is what I came up with.
I was needing a larger container to hold my spatulas and knew I wanted it to somewhat fade into the background. I don’t really need my spatulas to “make a statement” or catch your eye when you come into my kitchen. I bought the large glass container at Target. I found the jute roping at JoAnn prepackaged like this.
It was really easy to make. I used my hot glue gun, placing a good bit on the glass where I started wrapping the jute around. Each time I passed “the back” I would put a dime size amount of glue on the glass. When I felt as though I had gone up the glass far enough I cut the roping and put a good bit of glue on the glass to sink the end into. Done!
I thought I would gather some other great projects and ways jute roping is being used. It is big in lighting at World Market with this really cool light fixture.
You can buy them individually and group them in any way you want. I may use this to create a great light fixture for my oldest son’s room. Adding a little jute to things you already own is a great way to give them a new feel. Miss Kopy Kat has used jute in a great way in the next few photos.
I found some great projects on Pinterest. How about a jute wrapped letter to hang on the front door? I love that it is an “N”.
Or how about a Christmas tree made of jute? Ruth over at Living Well Spending Less created this great piece to sit on the table.
I love this tassel idea! I may have to try this with the leftover jute I have from my project. It would be so cute with coastal trim and a starfish hanging from it.
So take a look around your house and see if you can reinvent something by adding a little jute, or, head over to JoAnn with coupon in hand to try one of the great crafts above. Enjoy!
