Okay, okay, okay, I know I promised a laundry room reveal this week. It’s a long story. I won’t bore you with the details. Let me just ask, “Have you ever done something and then ended up just not liking it?”. I have a project I am still trying to make “right”. With everyone going back to school my progress has been slow.
Today’s post is about my love for mixing things up. Right now gray is everywhere and everyone is chattering about the continued fall of the beige room. I don’t believe it. It’s true gray has been the hot ticket for the last few years, but I think it is going to transition back. After all, the pendulum always swings from side to side so we will always want what we don’t have. My personal belief is that beige is going to come back again over the next few years. In the meantime, if you are living in a beige house (like me) you may think you’re not “in”. I think the smart move would be to think transitional rather than jumping in with both feet. Why not mix the two and have the best of both worlds? Besides, I believe the mix of cool and warm tones together in the same room is going to be more current and modern than sticking with one or the other.
I have gathered together some of my favorite fabrics mixing gray and beige together. The mix will carry you for years to come and you will be firmly planted on the fence, not always a bad place to be in my opinion. Use the fabrics as a jumping off point for the rest of the fabrics in the room. Pull in some textural grays that are more solid and some beige fabrics to add some balance.
I pulled a few pictures of gray and beige rooms to inspire you. I feel these rooms have a lot of warmth and just enough of the cool gray to tone it down. After all, no one wants a house that looks blah. I really love the striped fabric on the curtains. Gorgeous!
Beige, gray, and yellow makes such a yummy combination. Bright and cheery yet grounded. The light colored walls I think give it a little extra brightness that is great without giving it a sterile look. How could you not feel happy in this room?
Happy “greige” decorating! No more having to choose between beige or gray. Have a great week!
