A while back, the ultra-chic Paige from The Pink Clutch Blog coordinated a Vintage Swap, pairing up bloggers to shop for vintage/thrift items for each other. I was paired up with Missy from That Southern Chick and couldn’t have been more thrilled. Missy happens to be besties with one of my all time favorite bloggers, Amanda from Dixie Delights, so when I learned she was my swap partner, I already felt like we would click. Missy has the most amazing Etsy Shop where she makes insanely cute Disney and monogram items so I definitely felt the pressure to find some vintage items she would like. I mailed them off right before I left for my Up North vacation (I’ll post vacation details Sunday) and was so excited knowing a box of vintage items Missy picked for me would be waiting for me when I arrived home. The vintage items Missy sent me are incredible.
The beautiful silver scallop shell bowl had me at hello. I little coastal mixed with a little shiny? Yes please! The frame is made of shells arranged in a way to almost look like roses. So delicate and sweet. The blue glass is such a great pop of color, something I needed desperately.
If you read my last post, you know I am embarking on creating a closet office in our 4th bedroom, which would let my mahogany secretary desk become more of an accent piece rather than a major player in my life. When I opened my box from Missy, I knew immediately I wanted to use the items to create a vignette on the top of my secretary desk.
I already had the Brighton frame with my oldest son’s baby photo in it, but had been on the hunt for a frame for my younger son’s baby photo. I love how the two frames are so different but look so great next to each other.
I paired the silver scallop bowl with a thrift store score of mine, my Lenox Butler’s Pantry plate. I love how the cream plate behind the shell gives it some weight and really lets it “shine” as the star of the pairing.
I wrapped two of my favorite books in butcher paper and wrapped my journal in some simple watercolor paper. I have always kept a journal to jot down funny things the kids say and do as well as random thoughts. Missy was sweet to throw in a few of her beautiful monogram decals and I love how sweet it looks marking my journal.
I placed the vintage blue jar on top of the books to add another element of shine as well as a pop of color. It gives just the right accent to the space.
I also added this super sweet shell tassel I found while at the thrift store. There was a whole basket of them still in their original packaging. I snapped up several to use and love how it pairs with the shell frame and the brown wrap on the books.
I have to say, this was such a fun experience and I can’t wait to do another one! I want to thank Paige for putting this all together and pairing me up with such a great partner. There were a lot of great bloggers who participated, if you would like to see what everyone else did, click HERE to see them all.
I really want to thank Missy for being such a great shopper and an all around great partner for this vintage swap. I feel like if I still lived in the Atlanta area, we would be fast shopping and lunching buddies. Hop on over to Missy’s blog to see how she used the vintage finds I sent her. That Southern Chick
