Sometimes I walk in the thrift store and something just jumps out at me. Such was the case the other day when I spotted a plain beige door basket for $5. I knew with a little paint, it could be a quick and easy door decor project that could be changed with the seasons.
You see…I have a problem.
A storage problem.
I would love to have multiple decorations for my door for every season but the truth is, our garage already looks like it is going to burst at the seams with a golf cart, bikes, battery operated ride-on toys, and beach gear. I think if I plopped down one more item in the garage after hubby reorganizes the chaos I might make his hair go grey.
I added a little white chalk paint leaving the top band natural. My front door is recessed under an overhang and lighter items show up more from the street.
I decided to give it a nod of 4th of July by using red, white, and blue flowers. These are just inexpensive flowers I found at Wal-Mart on a recent shopping trip. It was so easy. I literally just stuck them in the basket and really didn’t do much arranging at all. Easy right?
I have plans for this little basket. I missed the boat on the 4th of July decor, it was already sold at my local craft store, but my plan is to adhere a magnet to the front of the basket and buy cute little seasonal signs I can attach to the basket using the magnet.
I’m also going to pick up pretty faux flowers when I see them in a multitude of colors. I plan on having one tub of flowers and signs that will fit nicely on the garage shelf. The basket will just get new accessories as the seasons change.
Working on my door always reminds me of my husband’s dear grandmother. She passed away last year but she always had an amazing door. It was a major project for her every season and she loved to talk with the neighbors about her pretty door.
What about you? Do you change out your door decor, or, do you just decorate your door for major holidays? Any tips for decor that doesn’t require a lot of storage?

I love that idea of adding a magnet on the front of the basket so you can alternate little signs as the seasons and holidays change! That is a great idea! the basket was a great buy!

Thanks Chloe! I so wanted to show it with the magnet and a 4th of July sign…but with one little craft store all the other ladies beat me to it. Thanks for visiting!

Hi Nancy,
I’m a new resident of the island. Boxes aren’t even all unpacked yet but my daughter is visiting so we are going thrift shopping, We’ve located two stores to check out and hope to find more

Welcome! There are some incredible thrift stores here. You probably found the two right across the street from each other. Good luck!
