I love Instagram…because Instagram gives me a behind the scenes look at what the most inspiring people are doing.
Like the design duo, Lance Jackson and David Ecton, from Parker Kennedy Living.
When I joined up with a great group of bloggers to do a monthly themed furniture makeover (Furniture Refresh) and the first month’s theme was “Inspired By” I knew immediately I wanted to do something inspired by Parker Kennedy Living.
Actually, I already knew the picture that inspired me. It’s this one.
Fabulous…no? I love the blue and white. I love the hot pink. I love the ceiling (although I am not quite that daring). The white lacquered console…I could go on and on. So when I spotted this sad looking little chair in the thrift store with a $20 tag on it…I knew it was meant to live out it’s PKL dreams with me.
No, not the purple dried on Play Doh.
The potential?
It had potential in spades. I could see it with a fresh coat of white paint and a fabulous blue fabric. I could have my own little slice of Parker Kennedy Living in my foyer.
It just needed a little help to get there and I was just the one to do it. Here she is…
All she needed was a nice coat of white and a little upholstery work. I actually used Kilz primer and then spray painted it in a glossy white paint. I used outdoor fabric I found in the remnant bin of my local upholstery shop.
Did you see the blue and white I pulled in? Of course I couldn’t post a chair makeover inspired by Parker Kennedy Living without pulling in just a touch of the blue and white Chinoiserie they are known for. I’m just crushing on that lamp right now too. It has such an interesting shape.
This was my first attempt at piping a chair. I’ve created piping on curtains and pillows, but never a chair. I pulled in the pink because although I can’t do a pink ceiling, I can pull a little bit of pink in on a chair.
I had a great time working on this little chair and it has added such a bright spot to our foyer.

Omg – I went to that show house in the ATL a few years ago and the Parker Kennedy room was the bomb! The photos don’t do it justice. Definitely a room to be inspired by! Nice work on your chair – looks great!
