Hello all! I hope you have had a great weekend and feel re-energized for the week ahead. I have a fun and easy project to share with you today. A painted striped wall!
My life consists of long hours trying to find a comfortable spot to sit in my bathroom. That sounds gross, but really I am talking about the hours I spend in my master bath while my two year old plays in the tub. Between boat wars, fishing excursions, and bubble blowing I stare at the walls and wonder how I can make this all beige bathroom feel more welcoming. I have thought about repainting the whole thing. I have even contemplated wallpaper. I actually love wallpaper in a bathroom. But, the other night I just decided I was going to do something no cost just to see if I like it. I grabbed the can of my original wall color, a can of white, tape, brush, and my handy level. I ran a nice warm bath for the little one and started in on taping a striped wall. It’s been done all over the blog world and Pinterest, but I find every time I see one I am drawn to it. If not now, when? I decided I wanted nice large 12 inch stripes. I started 12 inches from the ceiling and made mark all the way across the wall using my level as a guide. I then taped just above my marks so when I painted, the pencil marks would be covered with the new paint. I then measured 12 inches down from those marks and marked across the wall, putting my tape just under the marks. Again, they would be covered by the new paint. I kept the over/under thing going all the down the wall. It looked like this.
This next step is really important if you want to get really crisp clean lines. I took my original wall paint (the beige) and painted over the edge of the tape that I would later paint white. This seals the edge of the tape and prevents the new wall color from bleeding into the stripes that should stay the beige color. It doesn’t have to be a thick layer, just enough to seal the edge. It took just a few minutes to dry (I played during this time). Then it was as simple as painting the stripes white. It literally took me just 10 minutes to do the painting.
I peeled the tape off before the paint had completely dried and I had a quick, easy, and no cost update to my bathroom. Want to know my first reaction? I hated it. I walked away thinking, “Oh well, it’s just paint. I can paint over it when I really figure out what to do with this space.” But, I do have to say that it has grown on my substantially. It is a bright welcome on early mornings when I don’t fell like getting out of bed to go to work. For now, it stays.
Do you have a space that needs a little updating? Have you tried a striped wall? Have you done something else fantastic for no cost that has become the bright spot in your day? I would love to hear about it. Have a great week everybody.

I am so happy you like it Coco. I do love the subtle coastal feel it gives the room without making it a “beach” bathroom. Thank you for checking it out.

Thanks Cyndee! Now that I have lived with it for a while…I can’t imagine the room without the stripes.
