I am beyond excited to have this bathroom completed. Let’s just say, the other night I said to Mr. Handsome something like…”When I’m done with this bathroom I’m going to go back to doing my easy fun little projects”.
He took his hand and shielding his face, turned away from me for a second (I think to either roll his eyes or to mouth something he’ll need to confess in church) and then turned back to me with the face of enthusiasm and said, “Oh I know you will. This is all going to turn out great”.
Trying to convince him, I told him I was going to do easy and fun projects again, like painting shutters to put on walls or make a super simple coffee table tray and maybe I would sew some fun stuff for the kids.
Well, I think I have made a believer out of him. My muscles are sore, my legs are tired, and my feet hurt from standing on a ladder…but I’m so thrilled with the result. So, without further delay…
This bathroom ended up being all about texture and all about contrast. I’m loving the dark against the white and all the textures everywhere.
Texture, texture, texture. I just can’t get enough.
I think I am bordering on obsession with Turkish Towels. Anyone else? They are so soft and add so much to a room.
This shelf is actually a re-purposed shelf and you may not guess where it is from. This literally came down off our garage wall to find a new home in the master bathroom. #desperateforshelving
Of course more Turkish towels. You may be wondering how the pink pulls in to the bath. Well…it all started with this gorgeous art from Art Lamay. You see, every year he comes to the local Shrimp Festival and every year I stand in his booth trying to decide which ONE I want. I never could decide, until now.
I’ve always wanted a chandelier above my bathtub. This bath has lower ceilings so I decided to improvise on a “chandelier” and I love it.
And can we just stop for a moment and take in that ceiling? All those boards gave me splinters…not really! It’s wallpaper! Can you believe it? It looks so real. York Wallcoverings was kind enough to send me this amazing wallpaper. Truly great wallpaper to work with.
I love all of my new hardware. The door looks so much more substantial and less builder grade with a pretty new knob. The lights were another DIY project of mine. Cabinet hardware had me at “hello” walking down the Hobby Lobby aisle with a 3 year old sleeping on my shoulder.
I love shelving in the bathroom. A basket to hold toilet paper and a spot for towels really makes use of the vertical space. Have I told you that I love Turkish towels? Another benefit, they are thin so if you have a small bathroom they take up very little space. This shelf is holding 3 full size bath towels. Just sayin’….
I love that while I’m showering I can stare at my beautiful new artwork, and when I step out I’m greeted with a pretty little vignette on my chippy shelves.
I know some of you thought I was crazy when I said I was spray painting my shower. But I love how it turned out even though it was a pain to do.
Now for the best part. I love a good before and after so I’ve lined some up for you.
Thanks for checking out my One Room Challenge! I want to say a huge thank you to Linda from Calling It Home for putting together this One Room Challenge. I had a blast and ended up with a bathroom I will enjoy for a long time.
Be sure to hop on over to Linda’s site to see what all the other guest participants have been up to.
If you want to see some really great room makeovers check out the 20 designers who participated. The rooms are drop dead gorgeous.
I’ll be sharing all of my sources and give you the final run-down on my budget for this challenge on Monday. Be sure to stop back so you can shop the room.
One more for the road…
Have a fantastic day!
Nancy

Nancy, I’m so excited for you this looks really good! I know a lot of love and time went into making everything extra special. Great job!
Nancy says
Thanks so much CoCo. You know I agonized over every decision. But it feels so great to have this room done. Now I need to turn my attention to the master bedroom. It’s the whole If You Give A Mouse A Cookie complex. 🙂
Casey says
Your bathroom looks amazing! I absolutely love how the wallpaper looks on the ceiling and all that moulding! Great job! I’m following you now and I can’t wait to see some of those smaller projects you’ve got planned ?
Nancy says
Thanks Casey. I’m already starting this smaller projects. I’m so happy you like the transformation.
Lianna@theresnoplacelikehomemke says
So fun! Totally impressed tha tyou did a bathroom in 6 weeks! I have been working on mine forever. Great job!
Nancy says
Lianna, thanks for looking. Six weeks SOUNDED like such a long time. It was a sprint at the end. Thanks for looking.
Debi says
It looks fabulous!! Love the ceiling and the walls.
Nancy says
Thanks Debi!
Stacey says
Way to go! Your bathroom really does look slightly coastal. I love what you did to the walls and all the special little touches. Painting the shower was a great call.
Nancy says
Thanks Stacey. This is the first room in our house I’ve been able to make look the way I want it to look. I’ve decorated my kids’ rooms but that was based on their preferences. I can’t wait to start finishing all the rooms.
cathy temple says
Wow! What a difference! You did an amazing job. And it was obviously ALOT of work. Great job.
Nancy says
Thanks Cathy. It was so much work. In fact, if I would’ve known just how hard it was going to be to finish I might not have started. But I am so happy I did.
Samantha says
You did such a great job! Looks beautiful! Love all the beadboard!
Nancy says
Thanks. I want to cover all my walls in beadboard now. 🙂
ange says
It looks much brighter and yes, texture. Great job! I bet you are loving your new bathroom!
Nancy says
I do love it so much. Thanks for checking it out Ange.
KariAnne says
Nancy,
What a WONDERFUL transformation! I LOVE the ceiling and the light fixture. 🙂
You go girl!
Happy day friend!
karianne
Nancy says
Thanks KariAnne. Of course I die over the ceiling, it reminds me of some of the ceilings you recently featured. I have to admit I sometimes walk in the bathroom just to look at the light.
joy says
It turned out wonderfully! Love the color scheme.
Nancy says
Thanks Joy! I love the juxtaposition of light and dark.
Denise says
It looks so good!! So light and bright! An awesome transformation! Now, enjoy!! 🙂
Nancy says
Thanks Denise! This makes me want to paint all my rooms white.
Ashley@Biggerthanthethreeofus says
Wow, what a great before/after. I can’t believe that ceiling is wallpaper! I love that feature.
Nancy says
Thanks Ashley. It’s amazing to look at the pictures. It has made a huge difference in making this home feel less like a builder spec home.
marcie says
I’m a coastal gal so I am loving it, especially that artwork and the touch of pink. There is an amazing amount of pink in coastal life if you stop to think about it!
Nancy says
I know Marcie! Any way I can pull in pink without it being “girly” I am all about it. I love that Art LaMay print. 🙂
christine dovey says
Such a huge difference! I love the beadboard on the walls and wood on the ceiling…and he subtle hits of blush. Great job!
Nancy says
Thanks Christine. I couldn’t believe how easy the beadboard wallpaper was to put up. I would use again in a heartbeat.
Erin @ The Organized Life says
Great transformation! I cannot believe that’s wallpaper on the ceiling, and I completely agree that the spray paint made a huge difference on the shower.
Nancy says
Thanks Erin. I love looking at the ceiling. It makes me want to put it somewhere else in the house…but that would be redundant. 🙂
Corinna - A Designer At Home says
You spray painted your shower? I love it!
Nancy says
I know…crazy. I think spray painting the shower was almost as hard as putting in all the moulding.
sherry hart says
I can not believe that is wallpaper on the ceiling! Unbelievable likeness to wood! Love the makeover and I agree…there is so much texture in this space! Great job!
Nancy says
Thanks so much Sherry! 🙂
Cindy says

Valarie Sanford says
Hi Nancy! Just came across your blog, it is so lovely, especially all your hard work on the bathroom ceiling. I’d like to copy you if its okay by putting the plank wallpaper in my kitchen. I understand its a York product, but do you have the product info? Thank you and God bless
