Oh my goodness! I can’t believe it is just one week away! Y’all, I’m so excited for you to see this room. There is so much goodness going on in the room I think I’m going to explode! It is my favorite place to be in the house right now because it is making me so happy. I would love to show you the whole thing, but I’m just going to have to tease you a little this week. I wouldn’t want to spoil the big surprise before next week. One thing making my heart soar is the faux trey wood ceiling.
When I had the idea, I was so sure it was going to look awesome. Then, as I started to install it I started to doubt my idea. Sometimes the best laid plans don’t turn out at all. I’m happy to say I really like how it turned out in the end even though I almost abandoned ship half-way through. I finalized all of my fabric decisions so I could make curtains and pillows. I’m so excited about all the great color and pattern going on in the room. I just love it.
The bold blue and white fabric went on the window as curtain panels. I love the graphic pop of color in the room against all of the white of the walls. Pulling so much green into the room via fabrics made me re-think the blue shutters with the black dry brush. I did say they would mostly likely change colors and I’m happy to have a pretty solid green color on them now.
Aren’t they just a breath of fresh air? Speaking of air, I think all of my breath was sucked out of my lungs when I spotted these amazing brass flamingos sitting on the thrift store shelf yesterday for $2.00 each. Hello! Seriously? They were just waiting for me to take them home, polish them, and give them a lovely perch to view the world from. Here’s a sneak peek at them. They are just so lovely.
I love blue and white paired with almost any color, but lately I have been obsessed with blue and white on olive green. I can see this is going to be a combination I am going to love for a long time in this room. Isn’t this color combo delicious?
I struck it big on a recent shopping trip. I popped in to Target to buy two natural woven poufs for the room. They weren’t my first choice and I had been putting off the purchase just hoping something I liked more would jump out at me. I literally had them in my cart when I spotted these two rattan stools and knew they were the thing I had been waiting for. Plus, this week they are on sale. They’ll make perfect foot rests and extra seating for crews of boys playing video games.
On the way home from Target I stopped at the thrift (did I mention it is about 100 yards from the turn onto my street) and found the perfect basket for the room. It will be great to hold extra pillows, a blanket, or anything else boys can throw at it. It was $10. I was so excited I didn’t even take the price tag off of it before I shot this photo.
Last weekend was our famous Shrimp Festival on our island. It is such a fun time. There is a shrimp festival parade, an invasion by the pirates where they play out a cannonball battle on the marina, and the downtown streets are filled with tents of artists. I love walking around looking at all of the arts and crafts. This year I discovered a new artist and bought a larger Giclee from him to use in another space, but also bought some of his art cards. He paints one of my favorite coastal birds, the Rosette Spoonbill. I have plans for these little cards.
Be sure to come back next week to see the whole room. I promise, the post will be filled with tons of photos of this colorful and happy space. So thrilled to see all of the progress you’ve made. The colors and patterns are right up my alley…so of course….I love!!! The stools are amazing and the flamingos will rule the roost. LOL. But I do believe the shock and awe change is the ceiling. We will see…..because I know you have surprises in store for us. But…for now…I vote for the ceiling. Best to you as you head into the home stretch… XO Susie from The Chelsea Project
