A friend of mine, bestie S, recently commented that I always have something I’m working on or something I’m changing…nothing stays the same for very long. It’s true. I like to change things up around here. I believe it’s what keeps me hooked on my house and the thing that fills my bucket. So it should come as no surprise that I changed out my foyer decor for something new.
It all started with the sweet little brass quails I found at my local thrift store. I’ve been on a real kick of finding brass animals lately. Weird. So, I removed the foyer decor from my spring tour and started over.
To put this together, I started with a blank canvas by removing everything and dusting the credenza. I knew I wanted to use the bamboo tray as the center focal point of the vignette. I also knew I wanted to stack the new quails on top of books to give them more prominence. I needed a “bridge” between the tray and the books…something that links them together. The orchids literally touch the tray and extend over the top of the quails creating a visual link.
On the left hand side of the tray I knew I wanted to have something tall to balance out the height of the orchid, so I put a welcoming lamp in that spot. Then I needed a bridge between the tray and the lamp. I found this amazing little shell bowl. It’s the perfect spot to throw our keys when we come in the door and it adds a lot of texture and interest to the space.
Let’s take a closer look at the unique little bowl. I believe finding pieces that are quirky and unusual really make a vignette more interesting. For me, foyer decor that has one element that borders on “bad” makes it more interesting. It’s something unusual that makes us smile when we walk in the door…and really, shouldn’t you smile when you come home?
The black from the chair ties nicely into the black light fixture and gives the foyer decor a little bit of extra drama. The light was found at the local thrift and then spray painted with an oil rubbed bronze spray.
I’ll leave you with one last shot of the cute little brass quails. I’m sure they will live in this spot for a while. At least until I find a new perfect spot for them. What could be more fun than clearing off a surface in your home and redesigning it? Okay, sure, there are things that are even more fun, but this ranks pretty high in my book for the fun category.
Do you have something in your foyer decor that makes you smile when you walk in the door? What is it? I would love to know.
Have a fantastic day!
