As the school year is winding down, I have been feeling more and more the need for a little morning inspiration. Two things have been helping me each morning embrace the day with good thoughts and feelings.
I bought this silver tray at the Goodwill store at Christmas for a grand total of $4. It was a little tarnished in the middle and was clearly discarded after many years of use. I wanted to give it new life by making it a place to put quotes that speak to me. Each morning, I stumble out to the kitchen to put the coffee on and stand in front of this very spot. What better way to add a little morning inspiration to my day than to remind me each morning He has brought this day to me and I need to keep my eyes fixed on Him?
It isn’t in perfect shape and I love that. I used the Martha Stewart Chalkboard paint to create the chalkboard surface. I admit, I have to be careful when erasing it and even marking on it with the chalk, as it is easier to scratch with the silver underneath. When it starts to look too messy I will give it a few more coats and it will look great again.
I found the cute little flower at Michael’s and attached a magnet to the back of it to hold it on the tray. As the seasons change, or, when the mood strikes me, I will switch it out for another cute something I can clip a magnet to. I love the versatility of that idea and I really don’t have that much seasonal stuff to put up in my house. Can you hear the sarcasm in that?
As I stated earlier, this is only one part of my morning inspiration routine lately. The other is in the form of this super cute little owl mug I picked up in a local shop. It just spoke to me. You know those Pier 1 commercials where the items speak to the shopper? I swear, it was like that. This adorable little owl mug looked out at me from its eye level shelf and said, “I’d be so happy if we could spend our mornings together catching up on all the latest…by the way, I’m awesome”. She totally had this adorable squeaky little voice. How could I not take her home with me?
But she’s not just all big eyes and a pretty face, she brings morning inspiration. Yes, she holds my coffee, which in itself is morning inspiration. But, she is a gal with a message. A message we all need to hear every day.
That’s right, “Don’t Forget To Be Awesome” is something I now see every morning when I take a sip of my strong black coffee. I know, some of you just cringed…but I like the taste of strong coffee that teeters on bitter.
To me, the message on the tray and the message on the cup together make a perfect combination for morning inspiration. I know, if I tether my boat to Him and then live each day as the awesome person He made me, I will somehow be fulfilling my purpose.
I am sharing this project at some really great blogs, check them out.
