In this post: Let’s talk about how to make your home smell wonderful every time you walk through the door. I’m dishing on my favorite spring home scent.
After a long day at the Magic Kingdom on Sunday, we packed the kids in the car and embarked on the 3 hour drive home. It was unseasonably hot even for Orlando in March and I was riding in the car with some pretty stinky boys.
They were tired.
They were happy.
They were smelly.
We drove across the bridge onto our island and I put the window down to take in the salt air and the smell of our island. It smelled like home. Isn’t it crazy how a scent just stays with you?
How you couldn’t describe it to anyone but as soon as you smell it the memory just comes back to you?
We pulled up in the driveway and I hobbled up to the door (if you’ve walked Disney you know about the hobble) and as the front door opened the smell of lemon met me. It was refreshing. It was just what I needed to haul in the suitcases and cooler and car garbage.
If you would come to my house between March and September, it would smell like lemons. I adore the smell of lemon in the summer because it seems so summery.
Lemon in iced tea.
Lemon flavored water.
Fresh lemonade.
Lemon hand lotions, soaps, and perfume.
I use plug-ins throughout the house with the same scent and usually burn a candle while I’m making dinner. I don’t think I’ve met a lemon/citrus candle I didn’t like and this just happens to be my current favorite. The whole house smells clean even though it may just smell that way. 🙂
I know these last two pictures look very similar but I am giving you a little peek at one of the projects we’ve been finishing up. A project I’m so excited about. Glance past the Meyer lemons and the candle and the French pitcher and you will see my new pantry door. Squeal! Isn’t it gorgeous?
It’s not stained yet and the hardware is on it’s way. The trim isn’t painted and the dry wall around it still has paint samples on it while I decide….You will never believe how I patched this door together from a $28 hollow core door. I hope the stain and above-and-beyond door knob brings to life my vision. Keep your fingers crossed as I’m staining this tomorrow.
