Laundry Room Design Plan

A laundry room design plan?

I know what you’re thinking…where’s the kitchen!  It’s here and new counter stools are en route.  As soon as they come in I’ll photograph and post.  In the meantime, the laundry room is up next so I thought I would share my plans with you.  Here’s my inspiration.

There’s so much about this laundry room that I love.  First, it doesn’t really feel like a laundry room does it?  The washer and dryer are there but they aren’t the stars of the show.  I like them tucked away.  The bright shiplap also gives it character and lightens the space.  The touches of black give it the drama I am looking for.  My current laundry room is looking pretty sad.  Here’s a few pics I snapped just to give you an idea of what I am starting with.

I have no idea what I was thinking with the rainbow wall installation.  I think this was back in my phase when I thought if it was going to be coastal it had to be bright and beachy colors.  Ugh.  I’m going to take that down and shiplap that wall in a nice bright white.

The cabinets aren’t bad but I’ve always felt the blue color was a little drab.  I’m going to repaint them in a bright white but I think I’ll keep the pulls because they are a cute coastal look.

I already did one of the things I had planned.  I took the door off of the laundry room.  To be honest, I usually only do laundry on Saturday morning so having a door didn’t really seem to make sense.  The door infringed on the space so much that it made it hard to use the available floor space I have in the laundry room.  It already feels so much bigger.  With no door, I want to make sure it doesn’t “look” like a laundry room.

I love the idea of a wood counter over the washer and dryer to make it look more built in.  Plus I could really use a place to fold rather than the sofa or the bed.

I love the idea of using curtains to camouflage the washer and dryer when not in use.  I think it looks so French and would make the space look neat and tidy.

A backsplash in the laundry feels sort of decadent doesn’t it?  It elevates the laundry to be so much more than a place to dump dirty clothes.  I’m really loving the use of brick or faux brick in the space.  I’m not so much for the big “laundry” sign because I’m generally not a sign person…but the brick gets a resounding yes from me.

I love everything in my friend Emily from Eleven Gables’ laundry room, but I especially love that she has a fun light fixture and an oriental rug.  I just adore having a light that is more than the standard one because it makes it a lot more glam.  Plus, the oriental rug gives it an eclectic feel.

I can’t wait to show you this transformation.  It might actually make me tolerate laundry day a little more.
