So I’m going to share the before pictures and inspiration photos with you for a kitchen makeover on a budget. When we moved in this house I knew I would have to do some kitchen work but I also knew I wouldn’t have the budget to rip out the cabinets and countertops to start anew. Here is how it looked a few months ago….
Is it awful? No. I don’t know that I would have picked that shade of green with the countertops but…to each their own. I knew I had to repaint all the cabinets because some of the paint had chipped where the previous owners grabbed the knobs. I knew I wanted to pick a color that brought the granite to more of a neutral and toned down some of the business of it. I settled on the color Urban Putty by Sherwin Williams after seeing these incredible inspiration photos.
I love colored cabinets while still remaining neutral. In our previous house I did the white kitchen. Our second house I also had a white kitchen but I had never had a kitchen that was a color so I was game to give this a try. I can’t wait to share the transformation with you. It’s amazing.
Up next was deciding on a backsplash. If you follow me on Instagram you know that I bought every tile within the realm of possibility and then spent hours in my kitchen debating. Even though I kept looking for the perfect tile, in the back of my mind I kept thinking of these images.
In the end I went with my initial thought and used the tongue and groove as my backsplash. It just has something quaint about it.
I hope to be back later this week with a full kitchen reveal. I’m just waiting on a few more things before I photograph it. I have to be honest, painting cabinets is probably one of my least favorite things to do but it was so worth it. I’ll see you back here this week with some kitchen photos.

Nancy,
I know what you mean about painting cabinets. It can be such a transformation but when you get done you think……glad I don’t have to do that again anytime soon.
When I bought my current house two years ago the cabinets were nice solid wood but in the darkest stain known to man without being black.
Of course I wanted something light….white tops and blue bottoms.
Many coats later they were finally done but fortunately I had time to do that before I moved in. Looking forward to your “new” look.

Oh I know Deb! It was so worth it but it the middle of it you feel like you are going to lose your sanity. Your kitchen sounds lovely! I know it was a lot of work to go over the dark stain.

Nancy, you always do such a great job of everything! I’m really looking forward to seeing all you have done in your kitchen with incorporating all of your personal touches! I know it will be beautiful. So happy that you are enjoying your gorgeous new home. It seems like it takes forever to get everything done but how nice it will be once you have made it yours. Your last home was so beautiful with everything you did and I just know that this home will be the same way!
Nancy, make sure you take some time for you!
I always enjoy your posts and really look forward to them! Blessings!

Oh thank you Mary-Ann! Yes. I’m putting some final touches on the kitchen. Waiting to have a light fixture installed and then just playing around with some accessories. It does seem to take time to get spaces looking sort of how they want them enough to photograph and show you guys would I have been doing. But it is slowly getting there.
