The Key To Creating A Beautiful Spring Table-The Steps You Need To Know

So I totally intended to bring you a spring table and tell you all about how it was so effortless and easy to pull together.

I believed I would impart some wisdom on how easy it was to create an amazing table using stuff I “just happened to have” around the house to make this table possible on a whim.

But that would be a lie.  To tell you the truth, I agonized over how I could make it look so simple while trying to layer way too many plates together in an effort to make it look Pinterest and blog worthy. In all this craziness, I truly discovered the key to it and had a total aha moment.

The kind that makes you stop in your tracks and wonder how you never thought of this before…an idea so simple it eluded you for so long? It was a journey to get to it, but I’m going to pass it all on to you for free.

You see, it all started when I found this photo of a simple place setting by the amazing Joanna Gaines and muttered out loud, Why don’t I have incredible little galvanized fluted  plates to use on my table?  What kind of woman am I?

Then I realized, oh ya, I’m the normal kind.  The kind of woman that doesn’t have a warehouse to store all my incredible finds, and the kind of woman that has a family who would pick that fluted plate up and say, What are we supposed to do with these?

To be honest, I embarked on a round the world trip through my little town to buy amazing stuff to inspire you to create a table with stuff you own.  It didn’t sound that sinister when I started but things have a way of snowballing in my world.

In the midst of all this turmoil and angst ridden shopping I seem to always go through…I found the secret.  Do you want to know what it is?

Nature

What?  How can nature help me create a great table?  Here’s how.

1. Start with what you have.

No really.  Look through the table linens you already own and decide on placemats, table cloth, napkins etc….  This will set the foundation of your tablescape. I bought these placemats at the thrift store about a year ago and purchased the napkins more than 5 years ago from Target.  They don’t match perfectly but I felt like it would give it more interest.

2. Determine the color scheme.

Now that you have a foundation, determine if you are going to use an additional complimentary color.  I could have easily gone with a pink or yellow for this table because both are found in nature frequently.  In this case, I knew I wanted to use white.  This is why a great set of white dishes is a must…they just go with everything.

 

3. Look to nature for the rest.

I know this seems so obvious, but hit the grocery store for flowers in the complimentary color you decided on.  Because you have a color scheme buy flowers that fit in the scheme and stick to one type of flower to keep it even easier.  I know this sounds so simple, but I literally would start with the flowers and then try to pull a table together and it never looked the way I wanted.  Because I knew I wanted white flowers walking in the store, I had the luxury of deciding if I wanted hydrangeas, roses, or this pretty orchid.  Lots of choices and I was confident the table would come together without a lot of drama.

Can you believe a simple spring table could be so easy?  I love a layered and fussy table just as much as the next girl, but sometimes a simple table has its own sophistication.  Next time you need to set an easy table for a gathering remember to keep things simple by using what you have, picking a complimentary color, and then placing flowers in that complimentary color in the center.
