Summer is quickly coming to an end in my neck of the woods as I head back to school and prepare my kids for their journey back to the classroom I’m looking for some final inspiration. One of my favorite aspects of summer is getting together with friends and family (sometimes far away) and sitting down to have a meal together. It’s always a great time to share some food and fellowship, some stories of our times apart, and some plans for our future times together.
We have sayings in this family that endure the test of time and become ingrained into the fiber that is our family. Sayings such as, “I never thought I would live so long as to see a (fill in the blank) so nice” or “Thank you door”. These are all sayings that have stemmed from specific people in specific situations in our family and the saying stuck. “Thank you door” was uttered by my then two year old in an elevator when we were all together. He’s now 14. It is still said often when we get together.
For me, summer get-togethers always feature one symbolic gesture of good will, happiness, and joy. A toast. We have one toast that has spanned the test of time, “Unsere Leute”. In German it means, Our People. Whether you are actually a blood relative or are with us by default, you become one of “our people”.
Every day I’m inspired by other bloggers who create beautiful things, write beautiful posts, and create amazing stuff. They are my people. I thought I would share some of my people with you today in case you are in need of some inspiration.
