Y’all! I have missed you soooo much! But I’m back!
Well…the dust has finally settled. At least I can say 90% of the boxes have been unpacked, put up in the attic or stored away for safe keeping. It feels so good to be to the point where the house is starting to feel like a home. I have one room I want to share with you today. I’m calling this my Traditional French Country Living Room (with only stuff I already owned). I’m itching to go shopping for this house but have been putting it off because I know I will want to jump full-on into fall and then Christmas decor. Here’s where I am on this living room. A little look just between friends right?
It’s pretty bare bones right now. I pulled out some things just to give it a little life and to have something to show you. If you’ve been around these parts for a while you may notice a lot of items I’ve used in the past put into new places.
My collection of blue and white is used pretty heavily in this space. I always feel like it has a summer kind of feel to it. Light and airy and just fun. I offset it with a good dose of black in the throw, pillows, fake Staffordshire dogs, and candlesticks on the mantle.
This is by no means the finished space. I have some plans for the space but the bones of the room are just so good that it really just feels lovely all day long. There are so many windows it stays nice and light in the space until the sun is almost completely set.
I’m not sure if I ever really shared the above piece with you. Did I? I bought it at the thrift and painted it a while before we moved. It sat under our television in the last house. In this house it sits on the wall opposite and I love the thrifted lamps I used to have in our master on it. I turn them on every night and they just add so much ambiance to the room. The lamps give it such a great traditional French country feel. The mirror you may recognize from our old dining room. I love it’s new home because it is such a focal point in this house.
My Arhaus sofa went down in the basement for the kids to use in the media space and the sofa I used in the dining room in the last house fills out this space. It’s not the comfy sink in kind of sofa I love to curl up on and drink coffee in on Saturday mornings but…I already own it and it gives me time to really make a good decision on a new one. No rush.
My little Florentine table sits next to the sofa. Something pretty fall will land on it pretty soon. Oh my…adding photos to this post…do you see the dust on the runner of that sofa? I’m going to have to stop typing and go wipe that off. You know how they say the camera adds 10 pounds? I think sometimes it adds 10 pounds of dust. Just for the record…that’s moving truck dust. Yikes!!!
I’m going to try really hard to keep the big items in this house really neutral. The walls are painted an okay color. I don’t know what it is. The previous owner didn’t leave a can and I’m pretty sure she had it professionally painted right before it went on the market. I can live with it until I start doing rooms. Then I will paint one room at a time.
The room is open to the dining room. I haven’t done anything with the dining room. In fact, this dining set came with the house. I’m not sure if I am going to keep it or not. It has some marks on the top where they set something really hot. The hutch might work.
It’s not really my style though. So look for a revamp of the dining room. The family is settling in nicely. I think the first room I will finish is the playroom. Then I will move on to the boys bedrooms. I want them to feel comfortable and excited to be in their spaces. Moving is so hard so any little thing I can do to make it feel more like a place they want to be…the better. Ultimately though…and I know you know this…home is where the heart is. Not the stuff. We’ve already created some great memories in this house even when there were piles of boxes everywhere.
Almost everything survived the move with relatively little damage. I did have one little casualty I will share with you later. It involves one of my very favorite pieces. But, my favorite of favorite lamps survived the move. I swear…I will never get rid of this $10 thrift store lamp.
Do you remember the before? You can read all about it here. So, I’ll be popping on here more regularly and filling you in on the progress around these parts. I hope you will come along with me on this new and exciting journey! It’s going to be exciting and different than any other house I’ve ever done. 🙂
I’m going to try to link up items some of you ask me about for your convenience.

P.S. Things might be looking a little funky around here until I can get some behind the scenes help to switch everything to my new name. Change is a comin’!
