While I was going through some old files on my computer I ran across a few photos I had taken for the realtor of our old home in Georgia. I thought I would throw together a small little house tour. Although I do have to say, the house had already been “de-personalized” to a large degree so some rooms look a little sparse. I also notice my photography skills then weren’t so great. Why I didn’t unplug things and move them out of the frame is beyond me. Oh well. You live and learn. First up, is my dining room which I loved. This was the first home I used black as one of the main colors. I still think it is so beautiful looking at it now.
The dining room was just off from the front foyer. I loved the layout of the first floor of this house. It was the traditional four room downstairs with a nice sized two-story foyer.
On the other side of the foyer was the formal living room. We didn’t think we needed a formal living room, especially since it was attached to the family room with french doors, so we used it as an office. I painted two shades from the same paint strip to create the boxes you can see. In the room the effect was subtle. Of course when we lived there and weren’t selling it we had art work and other items on the wall.
The family room was connected to this office with a set of french doors. This picture captures it a little bit. Although it is really, really bare since we were in the process of selling.
Our kitchen and laundry room rounded out the bottom half of the house. Although my kitchen was small, it had a ton of bells and whistles. The previous owners had put in a brand new Kraft Maid kitchen just before they sold it to us. I had a ton of beautiful glass cabinets with wired lighting in them. I loved that feature.
The eating nook was a good size and had a built in hutch. I can’t believe how much storage I had in this home. Wish I had some of that now.
One of the first pieces of furniture I ever painted was at the top of the stairs. You can see a glimpse into my son’s nursery. The nursery I did for less than $500. I’m looking for more pictures of that to show you how I created a beautiful space for him on a dime.
Off the landing was our master bedroom. It had a lovely double door entrance.
Down the hall from the landing was the boys’ playroom. It was a great big space and had the best carpet in it ever. The carpet was 100% wool patterned carpet. It was luxurious on your feet.
The backyard was one of our favorite places. My husband would keep the fire pit going on weekend nights and friends and family would usually pop over to sit in the back and relax listening to some Willie Nelson or Johnny Cash. Sadly, the people who bought the house from us cut down most of the trees to level out the backyard. I always felt it was so cozy and private with the trees surrounding us. I would see a Cardinal almost every day.
I am sure I have more photos of each boy’s room. My oldest had a cowboy theme and my youngest son’s room was inspired by the Silver Sage collection of Restoration Hardware with touches of Peter Rabbit. I miss how much space I had and some of the character that was in the home, even though when I lived there some rooms drove me crazy. I know as time goes by I will create interesting layers in this new home and think it is just as beautiful.
