Furniture Musical Chairs

It seems like I do this every year.  Once I take the Christmas tree down I can see my home through “new” eyes and I end up changing things around.  This year was no different.

We moved the secretary desk out of the living room to make way for the Christmas tree.  Sometime during the holiday season I began to really like the secretary desk in it’s new spot.

This opened up a space in the living room for something new.  At first I thought I would go on the hunt for a Barrister’s bookcase…like this.

I’ve always wanted one.  But in a fit of madness, I decided to move the dresser and hutch into the spot…and I loved it.  Like right away loved it.

The carving on the buffet works so nicely with the carving on the dresser/hutch.  The white wash on each piece makes it look all harmonious and I sit on the sofa now and admire them every morning together.

I pulled a few things from around the house to dress the hutch.  This is always changing.  If you lived up the street from me (bestie S) you might even say, “I never know what I’m going to get when I come here!”.  It’s true.  I change things around a lot.  If you lived up the street, we could stand in my driveway and discuss why I do this.

For me, the design process feels a bit like this.  I know (fix a room one way)…I know (change it a bit)…I know (tweak it a bit more)…I KNOW (fix it and it sticks).  I’m sure it totally drives everyone in my house crazy…even the dog.  Her bed moves too.

So now I have another dilemma.  The spot where the dresser/hutch was is now empty.  It’s this big blank wall in need of love.  Now, don’t get me wrong.  I’m super excited about the possibility of yet designing another spot in my home.  I mean…let’s get real people.  I live for this stuff.

What do you think I should do with this space?  A new hutch?  A new bookcase?  A wall of shelves?  A console?  A gallery wall?
