This is by far my favorite holiday of the year and it shows in my French hutch. A lot of people love Christmas, Thanksgiving, and some really love Halloween, but Easter has always made my heart happy.
For me, it is a time of renewal. Renewal of my faith. Renewal of my garden. Renewal of my love of sitting on my patio sipping something good. Renewal of my love for bunnies.
I pull out all the stops and decorate several spaces for Easter. My oldest son’s nursery was filled with Peter Rabbit framed prints and bunnies. I’ve saved them all these years and it fills my heart with joy to pull them out each year and sprinkle them through the house at Easter time. It reminds me of the first months as a new mom sitting in his nursery rocking him and showing him all the bunnies in his room.
This French hutch was one of the first pieces I painted when we moved into our house. The bottom part was actually our dresser in our master suite for many years. When we moved here I went on the hunt for a top that might blend with the dresser. I painted them both with the same Miss Mustard Seed milk paint and finished it off with her white wax. Now they look like matching pieces and no one would ever know it wasn’t an authentic French hutch.
I think it will be repainted soon though. The green isn’t the right green anymore and I have a direction planned for the living room that will make this green stand out like a sore thumb. I think it will still involve white wax though. My obsession with white wax lives on!
I pulled out some of my milk glass collection (which is growing at a rapid rate) to give this French hutch a new bright look. To me, the bright white of milk glass and the dreamy quality of the “carved design” just makes me smile.
I fell in love with this striped pillow I spotted at T.J. Maxx and just knew it would be so welcome in this little space. It has such a nautical feel I adore paired up against this French Country hutch.
One thing I have learned when styling shelves of any kind is “less is more”. Give some breathing space to the shelves so each piece can stand out and grab some of the limelight. Just a little touch of a season goes a long way.
Tackle a shelf, hutch, or buffet in your home and add a little seasonal element whether it is St. Patrick’s Day or Easter. Start a collection to display. Milk glass is a great collection because pieces are generally very low priced and can often be found in thrift stores.
Do you collect anything? I’m always thinking about new collections.

Love the milk glass Nancy! My sweet mama had an amazing collection of milk glass that she collected over the years, specifically the hobnail pattern. Love the bunnies displayed among your collection!
