French Country Linen Tablecloth
I have always wanted a pretty linen table cloth with pleats. Well, last weekend I got a bee in my bonnet and decided I was just going to sew my own. I had looked at different ones online but I knew I wanted one custom made for my space. This was a really simple sewing project.
I knew I wanted it somewhat fitted and I wanted it to have a rustic quality. I bought linen suiting instead of linen from the home decor fabric section because I knew it would have a lighter more sheer look to it. I threw it in the washer and dryer to pre-shrink it before I started sewing.
I love how linen wrinkles. I know some people iron their linen and starch it and try not to wrinkle it (which is so hard to do). I embrace the wrinkles. I think it gives it a time-worn charm that makes it look more cozy. I could just be crazy though.
On a side note…I iron all my t-shirts so my embracement of wrinkles appears to only apply to linen.
I can’t believe I haven’t shown you these napkins yet! I bought them several months back because an embroidered crab and all that fringy goodness just had to come home with me. I was going to use them for the 4th of July tablescape but then went a different direction. Too too cute.
I fitted the edge like a slipcover would be fitted. I loved the tailored aspect of it near the table top and then how it falls away into pleats. I didn’t finish the bottom edge because I wanted to keep this French Country linen tablecloth sort of rustic. I hope after several washings it will fray in the most lovely way.
I knew I wanted a French Country linen tablecloth before all the fall decor descends on this house. I just think it looks so cozy for fall. Can you imagine pumpkins on this tablecloth? I can hardly wait!
I must admit it felt good to pull out the sewing machine and work on a sewing project rather than cutting wood and doing construction. Don’t get me wrong…I still love my chop saw. But, I’m going to be adding more quick sew projects into my life like this.
Are you ready for fall? My pumpkins are calling to me! They are going to be making a cameo appearance around here real soon.

Thanks Kathy! I found my linen at JoAnn Fabric and Crafts in the linen suiting area. It’s not home decor fabric, but linen that you would use for sewing clothing. Hope that helps.

Oh so cute……you are a multi talented lady!!! Love the crabby napkins…..While I also live in Florida I tend to buy all things coastal. My style is more rustic country coastal,but I love your style of French Coastal!!!

A fitted tablecloth – I love it. Linen is my favorite too…I wear tons of linen but never thought to use it in home furnishings…very fun.
I think linen is becoming one of my favorite fabrics. I too love wearing linen and now I’m looking for other ways to pull it in to home decor. Have a great day Jeanne!
