I have a dirty secret. All this time you may have thought my house was so “pulled together”. Not so. This whole time I have had a dirty secret and it is living in my kitchen.
Que horror music….
My kitchen table is so awful I can’t even bear to show you. I have tried and worked at this table trying to save it. It was given to us and had a not so nice stained top of cheap veneer imitation wood. I followed the steps for using chalk paint all three times I have painted it, but alas, I think my family is just too rough on tables right now.
We are one of those families that sit at the table and eat dinner every night. Luke always has a bowl of cereal before bed and the table is often used as a makeshift office in the evening. It takes a beating and it shows.
I decided I just couldn’t live with this anymore. I wanted a new table but knew I didn’t want to spend a fortune on it and building one from scratch (although affordable) isn’t something I want to tackle right now. If the kids are rough on it I didn’t want to feel like it couldn’t be replaced 4-5 years down the line. So I went on the hunt for a farmhouse table to mix in with my French coastal style and wanted to spend less than $300 on it. I thought I would share what I found with you, in case you are on the hunt too.
1. Wheaten Table by Target-$299.99
This has great farmhouse appeal. I love the color of the wood and it looks like something you could build. I love the bread board at the end of the top. Too cute.
2. Bryant Table from WalMart- $199.00
I love the modern feel of this table and honestly, you just can’t beat the price. It has great reviews online and I think it would be so neat paired with some vintage chairs.
3. Maddox Dining Table from WalMart- $274.99
If you are looking for a little farmhouse feel with a traditional coloring, this is the table for you. I love that it extends.
4. Wynnfield Table from Target- $249.99
This table has an awesome weathered wood top. I also love the mix of oil rubbed bronze/black coloring.
5. Antique Black Verona Trestle Table from World Market- $274.00
If you are looking for a trestle table this is a great option. I love mixing a dark table with light colored chairs. I think it is a fresh take on farmhouse.
So, which one is your favorite? Which one do you think I should order? I’ll be debuting it in my eating nook soon.

I really like the Winfield from Target. The weathered top and iron base would provide a transitional look appropriate in any decor. Good luck!

Table 1 is nice and I would buy it except for no leg or chair space on the ends….
