Total confession on this one…this project was an epic fail. This drop cloth skirted buffet table was such a good idea and I love how it turned out but it was such a bomb. More on that to come.
I can be stubborn. It’s true. Sometimes even when I’m in the midst of something I know isn’t going to work and it is more difficult than it should be and it is already not turning out great…I persist. On a good day, people may say I’m tenacious. Nice people. I know the truth, but sometimes just can’t come to grips with it.
If you came to my house right now I could show you a crochet baby afghan I started for a friend who was pregnant. It is almost finished. The problem was I couldn’t make it line up just right and would tear it out and start over again and again until I just put it in the drawer to “finish later” not admitting someone shouldn’t learn how to crochet on a big project. Start on a potholder? Me? No, I’ve got this. The problem is… her son is now three.
I also would show you a DIY sign I attempted laying out in the garage. You see, a while back I named our little island house after the family’s favorite shell, the lettered olive. It isn’t anything I would show on this little blog because it’s just soooo bad. But, I’m tenacious/stubborn so don’t be surprised if it pops back up around here someday.
We wanted our son to have his gaming computer out in the general area where we are so (1) he stayed a part of the family and (2) to have a visual of what he’s doing on it. I cut down the legs of this very special buffet table so it would sit at table height. It has lots of open shelves underneath it. I wanted to have the dual option of having him use it and still store some of my items below. Thus my idea of a drop cloth skirted buffet table was born.
I bought some simple gold tone screw in hooks, some inexpensive adjustable rods, and a few drop cloths. I thought I was so clever. I ignored the obvious objection my teenage son was going to have about playing his computer games on a drop cloth skirted buffet table. He’s 14. I persisted and ignored this truth knocking around in my brain. It took me hardly any time to sew a quick pocket for the rod and use the factory hem wherever I could. I was so proud. It was pretty.
Did you see it? The demise of my big plans? Yep, it’s an air return. It’s not like I didn’t know it was there. But I wasn’t going to let a little air return get in the way of my drop cloth skirted buffet table. I became stubborn. I was stubborn when I was laying in bed the next night listening to the air conditioner run and run. I was stubborn when cleaning the house the next day and I told myself I must be going down the road of “hot flashes” because the air conditioner was set at 76 degrees. Then we had people over and we were all so hot. Finally, I couldn’t be stubborn any more. I took down the curtains on my skirted drop cloth buffet table and the air rushed through the house. I had to come to grips with it.
Oh well. You win some, you lose some.
Have a fantastic day!
