DIY Paper Tassels + Gift Wrapping Inspiration

Are you a tape-the-paper-to-the-box-kinda-person, or, are you the type who wraps with such proficiency you never need to tape to the box?  I’m actually both.  I like to keep my gift receivers guessing.  There’s nothing like watching someone try to slide the  box out of the paper and it just.won’t.budge.  🙂

I really love wrapping paper, ribbon, and paper crafts.

 I kinda can’t pass ribbon by when I see it on sale so this was a perfect excuse for me to craft some paper tassels and take my Christmas gift wrapping up a notch.

Aren’t these little paper tassels cute?  They are so easy to make.  I have a little tutorial for you later on in this post.

This first collection are my deer inspired gifts.  It’s hard for me to get into “snowy” looks here on the island, but we do have deer.  I tend to do two completely different looks each season.

A comfortable look that is homey and festive, and a fancy look.  I think this is a metaphor for my life.  On the one hand, I love the comfort of jeans and a t-shirt, but there is always the desire to be one of those women who does her grocery shopping in “fancy” attire…the dueling sides of my personality (although as I get older comfort seems to be winning).

Nothing says Christmas like bright pops of red.  Pairing it with black and white gives it a more current look while maintaining some of the traditional feel.

Little paper tassels don’t have to be made just from scrapbook paper though.  I used gift wrapping paper to make this next set of paper tassels in the fancy look.

I never buy a random roll of wrapping paper.  It either needs to fit into one of my color schemes, or, I need to find coordinating papers right then and there.  You can do so much with coordinating papers that I never walk out of the store with just one roll.  In this next photo you can see I used the striped paper to wrap the present.

The above gift topper was brought to you by the scrapbooking aisle.  I made a paper fan from scrapbooking paper and topped it off with a gold doily and a scrapbooking embellishment.  Look beyond the gift wrapping section of the store to find new and creative gift wrapping inspiration.

I told you I couldn’t pass pretty ribbon by.  Who wouldn’t love to receive a gift with this ribbon on it?

As promised, you will find below the paper tassel tutorial.  It’s so easy…seriously…anyone can make them.

Step 1:  Gather glue gun; paper; scissors; ribbon/string; small round object (like end of child’s paint brush)

Step 2:  Cut two strips of paper (3″ x 7.5″) and two stips (3″ x .5″) and cut “fringe” into long piece

Step 3:  Wrap around small paint brush end and roll up tightly.

Step 4:  Use hot glue to glue it closed

Step 5:  Wrap small piece around top of tassel add glue on as you wrap it around

Step 6:  Place a glob of glue down the hole on top of tassel

Step 7:  Insert ribbon into the hole and let glue set up

Step 8:  Repeat steps to make another tassel and glue to other end of ribbon

Wasn’t that so easy?  I will warn you though, making them can be addictive.  Soon you’ll have tassels on everything!
