Slightly Coastal has officially changed over to Adams and Elm Home and I am so excited! It was a ton of work moving domains and all the content but I am happy to be back in the blogging business again. Thanks for sticking around during all the behind the scenes construction!
Now…let’s get on with some design! Today I have decorating with collections on my mind. It all started back in the late 80’s when Martha Stewart had her own television show and it seemed like she collected almost everything. In particular, I remember her jadeite collection and I fell in love with collections. Lately I’ve been feeling the itch to decorate with collections (and start collecting more stuff). With all the thrifting I do, looking for specific things that I collect can become more fun than just randomly buying whatever jumps out at you. Here are some collections I have been admiring lately.
Who doesn’t love a good ironstone collection! This one is simple in the styling but oh so pretty. If you set out to collect ironstone you are not alone. It is really popular right now so getting items for a good price might be a challenge.
Hello buttons! I mean, you don’t really even have to actively search for buttons. If you start saving all the buttons that come in the little pouches attached to your clothes not only will you have the replacement button should you lose one, but you will also have a great item to display! As a kid, I could spend hours staring at jars of buttons (and marbles).
This has been my little obsession lately. Unlikely that I would run across one of these shaker boxes in a thrift store…but it is possible. I just love the craftsmanship in them and feel like they can go with almost any decor.
Now this is a collection that requires some commitment. I love the look of this, I’m just not sure I am willing to spend the silver polishing time to keep something like this up. But it is oh so pretty.
Rolling pins! I know! People collect them. Who knew? So I’ve been more in-tune with rolling pins lately because I’ve seen them all over flea markets. Vintage ones with painted handles are my favorites. I might have to start this collection. You could totally find these at thrift stores.
Hello French mirrors. I do love thee. You know I have a problem with mirrors. This might be the solution. I always tell myself I don’t need another mirror. I have mirrors sitting with nowhere to go. This could be an option. It is so beautiful.
There are so many options for decorating with collections. With Christmas coming up, why not group some of your like items together to make a collection? For instance, put Santa figurines together on a tabletop, or, start collecting Christmas snow globes.
Let me know in the comments below what/if you collect anything? I want some new ideas for collections to start of my own so I can decorate with collections.
Have an awesome day buddies!

Welcome back and great ideas. I love collections of just about anything. But you had me at that wall of mirrors. **big sigh** as a plan develops to gather mirrors. 🙂 ~~ Susie
