What do you do when you have a new kitchen table and want something new and coastal to put in the center? You drive all the way into Jacksonville to the cutest little shop to buy some Fusion Mineral Paint in Champness and then search for something in your house to paint. Sound reasonable?
It was sort of a mama treat for me after my morning. I took the day off of work to take my littlest in to have a cavity filled. Sometimes you can prepare for these types of things and sometimes you can’t. We talked all about the drill, the water sprayer, the water vacuum, and the white substance they would fill his cavity with. He walked in brave and ready to tackle this challenge until…they put the laughing gas nose piece on. Breathing through his nose with the air blowing was more than he could take.
There was crying and breathing through his mouth and the hiccups that come with crying too much. The dentist pulled the plug on the appointment and scheduled us for two weeks later for a second attempt. Womp womp. So we did some mommy snuggles, talked about being brave next time, and hit the drive thru for a Shamrock Shake (the cure for all 5 year old woes).
He fell asleep on the drive to the little vintage shop that carries Fusion Mineral Paint and when we arrived and got out of the car he looked around and said, “We went all the way to New York?” I guess we need to leave our little island more often if downtown Jacksonville can be mistaken for New York. #shelteredlife
This is not a sponsored post, in case you were wondering. I really wanted to try the paint because it has the coverage and adhering properties of chalk paint but doesn’t need any kind of top coat. I wanted to try it as a test run for painting my kitchen cabinets. I have to say, it clung to this metal tray nicely and only needed two coats to have thick full coverage. It was so easy I had to share it with you. If you are thinking about painting a piece of furniture or want to experiment with painting something small like this a tray I highly recommend this paint. Plus, it is not as expensive as some of the other brands so you can buy more colors.
Have you noticed the lovely table top in this post? I have to say, I’m a little over the moon with my new table and will share the whole thing with you next week. While my oldest son and I were putting it together, I shared that it had been 13 years since I had a brand new table. I shouldn’t have waited that long. Here’s a little peek.
You can always look back at this post to see which one you think I bought. Hope you are having an awesome week!

Oh Nancy. What to do with 5-year-olds? Sometimes —life can be hard. I’m so glad the Shamrock shake saved the day. Likewise, looks like the Fusion paint saved the little tray. Champness is the perfect coastal blue. Beautiful job. Looking forward to seeing your kitchen makeover. Susie from The Chelsea Project

Beautiful makeover!! Perfect for your coastal look! Oh the dentist is even traumatic for even us adults!!!
Nancy says
Thanks Shirley! I know the dentist can be traumatic. I must admit, it is not my favorite appointment to go to either. I love when you visit my little corner of the internet. Thanks for stopping in and saying hi.

What kindof metal is the tray? I have a silver plated one I would love to try this with. Any thoughts?
Nancy says
Beth,
I think it would great on a silver plated tray. They also sell a product to put under your paint if you want it to adhere to something even more. This tray was just a run of the mill tin/metal? type tray. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

This tray is beautiful! I have one almost exactly like it and now I want to paint mine! Can you share the store in Jacksonville that carries the paint? (I’m in St. Augustine.) Can’t wait to see your new table!
Nancy says
Hi Carol,
Yes, the shop is called Rusted: A Vintage Market and it is located on San Marco about 1/4 of a mile west of I-95…really close to M.D. Anderson. Pop in there and then have lunch at the European Street Cafe on San Marco…it’s one of my fav places.

Nancy, your new table looks lovely! You did a great job of your tray!
We will keep your son in our prayers! Hopefully, his next dentist visit will go really well. The Dentist is someone you never look forward to seeing — even me and I should be used to these visits by now! Ha! Ha!
Have a blessed day!

Thank you so much Mary-Ann! Thanks for your prayers. Poor Dentists…it must be hard to go to work everyday knowing most people are dreading coming to see you. 🙂

This color is stunning and I love how it has a coastal vibe yet seems neutral. The coral is perfection and the table and chairs you chose oh my word – love, love, love! Hugs, CoCo
