Growth:
- the process of increasing in physical size
- the process of developing or maturing physically, mentally, or spiritually.
Each boy planted a Christmas Amaryllis the other night. Now is the time if you want your Christmas Amaryllis to bloom over the holidays. Kids, even old ones, always have fun planting something and watching it grow.
They don’t realize I have more motivation behind this than simply having some pretty flowers in the house. Sure, we are going to water them, move them within the house so they grow straight and tall, and measure them as they shoot up. It’s going to be fun to watch them grow and eventually bloom.
Really, growing a Christmas Amaryllis is a lot like human growth. We all need a strong base (soil) that provides us with a good foundation. We all need something to feed our minds and our soul (water). An Amaryllis, like us, needs the light. Did you know you need to keep moving and rotating an Amaryllis to make it grow straight? It naturally grows toward the light. Are we growing toward the Light?
Over the holidays I am going to take time to do a little “life lesson” with each of my boys that includes a lot of these thoughts. I developed a little lesson mostly filled with questions and thoughts. It’s really a jumping off point to spark a conversation using a shared experience (growing a Christmas Amaryllis). You can download and print the Teen Lesson if you would like to use it.
I love paper whites. I decided to plant some paper whites to help me also focus on the important aspects of the holiday season.
What better place to plant them than a garage sale silver trophy bowl? Luckily, my box of paper whites came with 4 bulbs. How fitting. There are 4 of us in this little family.
I developed a little lesson and daily reminder for myself. You can print the Amaryllis Printable if you would like to put it up to remind yourself this season to water your family with pure words and turn them toward the Light every day..
So as we kick off this holiday season…my hope for you is that it fills your heart, soul, and mind with all the goodness in the world. That your home is filled with love, laughter, family, kind words, and food that fills your tummy and feeds your soul. Merry beginning of Christmas.
I just had to add this photo. Not more than 5 minutes after I photographed the space, my little Luke decided that Nerf dart decorating should be all the rage this season. How many other 4 year-olds have cloche in their vocabulary? Too precious.

What great knowledge you are sharing. Thank you so much. I also love the printable. My little boys are now ages 50 and 43. How I wish I could go back and do it over as I know so much more now. Enjoy every moment. Blessings, Nancy

I just bought some paperwhites from Trader Joe’s today – I haven’t grown them in forever, and I am looking forward to seeing them sprout. Thanks for sharing – I love the blue and white!
