I bet you think I’m kidding and there is some glorious wreath I whipped up just waiting further down the page.
Nope.
I titled this post “How Not To Make A Wreath” for good reason. A wreath maker I am not. Don’t get me wrong, I try and I try and about 25% of the time I’m happy with the results. Those aren’t very good stats.
It’s the truth about me. It could be that I’m a perfectionist, or, it could be wreath making is “not my jam”. Wreath making may not be my jam, but woodworking is my cup of tea. I created this wood monogram sign instead.
I created this little Welcome wood monogram sign out of pure frustration. I spent the better part of two afternoons working on a wreath for my mom that would knock her socks off. It just never quite looked right. I ran back to the store and picked up more ribbon, and a floral stem, and a black chalkboard sign and I thought adding more was going to make all the difference.
But the truth is, more isn’t always better. Sometimes, more gives you a wreath with so many do-dads and thing-a-ma-jigs hanging off it people would have stopped at my mom’s door and said, “Bless her heart. I bet one of her grandchildren made that for her and she feels obligated to hang it up”. *gulp*
So I ended up ditching the wreath and wandered into the garage searching for something I could pull together to give my mom because I had already promised her the wreath to end all wreathes. I ended up using some leftover plywood and pulled out my jigsaw to create this scalloped wood monogram sign.
Is it perfect? No. Just like me.
Is it kind of sweet with a little awkwardness? Yes. Just like me.
Was this sign cheap frugal (less than $2.00)? Yes. Just like me.
I think it adds a little punch of character and the extra two holes I drilled thinking I needed some cute rope to hang it up with will be covered with some wood appliques en route as we “speak”.
Dixie had just returned from the groomer so I had to take her along for the ride and snap some pictures of her. What is it about dogs on front porches?
Yes, my mother’s Poinsettias are still alive and thriving. In Florida everyone puts their Poinsettias outside for the season. Needless to say, my mother was very happy with it. It will hang there until I create something else I think is even better. I guess I’m still bringing home my “art work” to mom to hang up.
Bless her heart.
Have a fantastic day!
