You ever have those mornings when you wake up and think of doing something which requires a radical departure from what you usually do? I did recently and it ended with this summer flamingo living room, in pink. Yes, pink.
It could be the testosterone around my house has significantly increased with Hayden heading in to high school and Luke becoming more “all boy” every day, but I felt the need to inject some pink into the house and this flamingo fabric captured my imagination at first sight. Why not do a summer flamingo living room? My mother-in-law’s bestie C (yes that’s you Cheryl), uses the flamingo as a logo for her business and I’ve always thought it was really cute but never imagined it to be part of my home decor. I was missing out.
I pulled out literally every pink thing I own in terms of accessories to decorate the space. I bought these plates years ago at a little vintage store in Door County, Wisconsin. They’ve sat in the cupboard for years. When I was in Michael’s the other day I ran across this pink and white wrapping paper and knew it was time to switch out the tray paper in this Lego Tray.
I pulled in a ginger jar, vase, and trinket box all in shade of blue and pink from my stash of accessories.
I used a paler pink fabric on the little bolster pillows that sit in our chairs. The camera doesn’t capture it well, but it has some of the bright pink outlining the shapes…but it is ultra-thin.
The flamingo in this fabric has a paisley floral design that I adore. I wanted to brighten our forever sofa with a dose of brighter green and the stripes in this accent fabric brighten things up while still complimenting the color of the sofa.
I love the bright and cheery aspect of this space. Lately I’ve been really going for the bright and cheery. I still love my neutrals though. The beauty of having a space filled mostly with neutrals allows me to wake up one morning and decide I need summer flamingo living room.
As crazy as it is, the chairs I was waiting to have reupholstered, now look great. Hmmmm. I’ll have to think on that one.
So what do you think? Would you pull in something fun like a crazy print for the summer? My thing is coastal birds, what is the thing you love?

The pink is so fresh and fun and just screams summertime. I would love to have some of those flimingo pillows. Yes, I would….for my old-Southern traditional home. I do believe they’d be perfect in the sunroom. LOL… Susie from The Chelsea Project

That is the beauty of neutrals. The pink is absolutely charming. I wish the pink flamingo was the Florida state bird. It captures our Florida lifestyle.
