Boy do I have a deal to tell you about. I had been watching a china hutch at my local thrift marked at $95. I really just wanted the bottom part of it to store my ever growing assortment of china. One day I walked in and it was marked 25% off. Not a bad deal but I decided to wait. Then, last week I popped in and it was marked 50% off! But wait, there was another couple looking at it and discussing placement in their home. Aaagh! I shuffled around the thrift store pretending to be shopping for other things while I waited to see if they were going to buy it. Then I heard him say, “I’m sure someone would come along and buy the bottom.” What? They only wanted the top? I bee lined over there and we struck a multi-buyer deal with the thrift store. The lady who bought the top is a volunteer so we both received her discount. Score! I went home with this $17 diamond in the rough buffet.
Here is the after! I love it!
It was such a quick and easy project to do. I already had the Martha Stewart Chalk Finish paint on hand so I quickly cleaned the buffet and set off painting it. I love this soft blue. With the four cabinets below I have plenty of space to store extra dishes and decorating accessories. I’m so excited this house is finally starting to come together.I was pleasantly surprised to find the mirror already hanging there seems to look great with the buffet. I had the mirror above my old gold and black console from our previous home. It was beautiful but I want to go more coastal in this house. This is what was there before.
Did you spy the Nerf dart? Just keeping it real around here. In the new buffet I wanted to line the drawers with a fabric not only for sanitary purposes, but fabric in drawers where silver is kept keeps the tarnishing down. I had some leftover black and white buffalo check fabric from my oldest son’s bedroom makeover. View that HERE.
If you have been here a while you know of my obsession with Miss Mustard Seed’s White Wax. I used it on my French Hutch. I also used it on my Weathered French Buffet. A few weeks ago I used it on my kitchen table to give the same weathered look. So it should come as no surprise that White Wax made it onto this project as well. I feel as though it makes any piece instantly coastal.
I love the fact that it is not perfect. I didn’t really want chippy, but I wanted it to feel like old paint. By not putting the paint on perfectly I like the texture it gives to the piece. I instantly fell in love with the hardware and didn’t do anything to it. It even has a scallop shell! How perfect.
I shopped my house to accessorize it right away. I’m sure I will fine tune this as time goes by. In fact, I already bought to small decorative shelves at the the thrift store the other day which I am planning to place some stunning coral on.
I really love the view upon entering our front door. My DIY Nautical Front Door Hanger sets the tone for the entry and I adore how it all seems to flow together. The blue and white of the anchor. The black from the front door. The blue from the buffet and the black from the mirror.
I think every entry-way should have a chair if there is room. It’s always great to have a place to sit down and put on shoes. I found this amazing bamboo chair at the thrift store, of course. It was marked $60 and there was a special that day. I didn’t know for sure where it would end up but I just knew I had to have it in my house somewhere. I just love the intricate details of the chair and I am always a sucker for caned seating.
For less than $100, this entry has such a different feel. I love the light and bright coastal element it brings to the space. Will it be a forever piece? I don’t know. At this point, nothing is safe in the house except maybe that bamboo chair. Here is one more look at the before and after.
Have you used Miss Mustard Seed’s White Wax? Did you love it? I read every single comment and they mean so much to me.
