The Project That Never Happened

This is the story of a kitchen that wanted to be something special.  It got all excited last July when I posted “before” pictures of it and talked about the plan and how incredible it was going to be.  The problem is, the before photos never turned in to “after” photos.

Each morning as I poured my coffee the kitchen would whisper…”make me beautiful” in a non-creepy kind of way.  I would lean back on my counter, sip my hot coffee and tell it, “next month”.  So, six months later and I avoid eye contact with it.  Yhea, right, good thing it doesn’t have eyes or I would totally feel shamed.

The good news is it allowed me to reassess my design options and I’ve veered in a slightly different direction over the last six months.  Don’t tell anyone, but I’ve become more daring.  In fact, I may or may not have streamed Justin Timberlake over my Alexa while pinning new options and I have to say, this kitchen might just bring sexy back.

Sexy in a down home, comfy, textural kind of way.  Okay, so maybe sexy in a mid-life kind of way, but that counts right?

So here’s the new plan.  Two of the things that have frustrated me so much about this kitchen is the serious lack of counter space and the fact that it doesn’t have a built in trash cabinet.  So I’m fixing the problem by adding a lower trash cabinet and extending the counter space.

I’m having a little bit of an obsession with old brick.  The problem is, this is a pretty new house and there is no brick in sight.  Not for long though.

I’m also having a little bit of a shiplap moment.  I know the whole world is having a shiplap moment, but I have to say, if shiplap should be anywhere it should be in an island home so I’m not worried about when it goes “out of style”.

Okay, shut the front door, or, maybe a vintage antique door.  Clearly, this is the best decision ever!  Hello, “antique” pantry door…come home to mama.

Now, I know you might be thinking I’m not actually going to follow through with this one and pretty soon I won’t be able to go in the kitchen at all out of pure shame.  Not gonna happen.  I’ve already begun and it is looking soooooo good!  I can’t wait to share all the progress with you in the coming weeks.
