I am a child of the 80’s.
The class of ’89 to be exact.
The 80’s were all about movies with teen angst, big bangs, Guess Jeans, and Sperry Topsiders.
There was always a female lead in every movie that was so misunderstood. *If only people would see her for the beautiful and talented girl she really is deep down.*
You may think the big star of the 80’s was Molly Ringwald…and you’d be right. But there was another star…
Wallpaper.
Yup, I said it…wallpaper. It was everywhere, like Molly Ringwald.
It too was misunderstood. It didn’t mean to make a mess of your walls.
But sadly, in the 90’s people grew tired of wallpaper and it was no longer “chic”. People scraped it off their walls and declared, “I’m never wallpapering again!”
They developed an aversion to it and thought it would never come back.
But just like the misunderstood high school girl who returns to her 20 year reunion looking fab-u-lous, wallpaper has come into her own too. She’s back!
And I couldn’t be happier.
Do you see that wood planked ceiling? That’s wallpaper! I know! It looks so real right? York Wallpaper was kind enough to send me enough rolls to wallpaper my ceiling and I am in love with this wallpaper.
I’m not going to lie, putting this wallpaper up was a challenge. The wallpaper was great, but working against gravity? Not so much. I would recommend at least 2 people for wallpapering a ceiling, preferably 3.Once the wallpaper was up I took the fan, vent cover, and light outside and sprayed them with Rustoleum’s Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint.
Then, I received the game changer. My husband treated me to a new Ryobi AirStrike Nail Gun. Woo Hoo! (Let’s just not even talk about those root m-kay? Thanks!)
With my AirStrike, I took on what I thought would be Board and Batten in the bathroom. I took it in a new direction though.
I started with the board around the ceiling and then just became inspired. I remembered the great molding in the HGTV dream home and made it my goal to try to recreate it as best as I could. Here’s the HGTV home.
This weekend my goal is to install the bead board and trim all of the recesses out with molding. Sounds like a fun weekend huh? The wood detail has been super cheap. So far I’ve only spent $32 on wood. What a difference it makes. I’m sure it will really open up the room when it is all painted a creamy white.
The tile installer is set to come next week to install the tile above the vanity. Then it is a mad dash to finish all the details. I have to tell you…I’m a little nervous because 2 weeks goes by so fast. I really want to finish everything I have planned. I now feel the need to make a list. Aaaah!

Amazing! I bet hanging that wallpaper was a killer but it looks fabulous.

My arms were burning. I actually tried to hold the wallpaper up with my head for a second just to give my arms a rest…that didn’t work. It was worth it though.

Wow, that’s some pretty sweet wallpaper! You have a lot to do but it’s going to look fabulous when it’s done! I have a list yet too, starting to get a little nervous and I really should be doing something besides oogling the orc links. Lol.

Thanks so much Ange! Your space is coming along too! I’m happy you like it. I have a long weekend in front of me. But it is fun to see the space moving away from builder grade.

This looks awesome! Love the wallpaper, love the molding, love the inspiration room! I am so excited to see the finished space!! Have you thought about the Martha Stewart paintable wallpaper that looks like beadboard instead of paneling? It’s really easy to install and looks great. For our bathroom it was also less expensive. Just an idea 🙂

Casey, you are a genius! I looked at that when I was debating bead board capped off with a small shelf to go around the room but didn’t think about it for this application…duh. I have a slight texture on my walls though. I’m wondering if it would be thick enough. I’m going to check it out.
