Are you a smile person?
You know, the kind of person that can’t help smile at people? (That’s me…usually)
As I was leaving Home Depot for the gazillionth time this past week, a woman walking toward me in the parking lot smiled a smile at me like she knew me.
I stopped, sort of awkwardly turned around to see if there was someone behind me, and found that she was just smiling at me.
For what reason? I know not. But I have to tell you, I was feeling like crying because of this One Room Challenge…and that smile changed it all.
So, thank you random woman at the Home Depot. 🙂
I marked some items off the list this week. The one that made me want to cry was this one…
Spray paint the shower enclosure…no big deal right? Ugh. Let me tell you, the amount of plastic this bathroom was wrapped in made it look like we had some horrible asbestos problem. We have had a slight heat wave with temps back up in the mid 80’s and I have the windows open with fans going to circulate air. #whydidistartthis
I didn’t think removing the caulk was needed. Boy was I wrong. The evidence.
Lovely right? This was after I went back and removed the caulk for round 2. Removing the caulk first works much better.
I still need to go back and do a few touch ups with a brush but it is so much better. But, now I have to caulk again.
I feel the need to make a public service announcement. Unless you have really, really clear enunciation, don’t use voice dictation on your phone to text your husband, “Should I get some white caulk or black caulk?” without double checking the message before you hit send. #justsaying
Okay, stop laughing.
I finally made a decision on lighting. After looking and looking I ended up deciding on a DIY project for myself (big surprise there). I just fell in love with the nautical feel of this light. The problem was, it only came in satin nickel. So, I took it all apart and sprayed it as well.
I finally settled on art! I love this artist and had such a hard time picking just one of his great pieces to use in this room. I literally love them all. I’ll share all the details on him with you next week. When it arrived I was so excited to go have it framed, until they told me how much. Seriously? Have you framed something lately? I scoured my local thrift stores for a frame that would be the right size and ran across one that worked. Except, it looked like this.
It had a whopping price tag of $3.99 and contained non-glare glass. How could I go wrong? If you’ve been around these parts for a while you know I compare the price of any thrift store item to the price of a good cocktail. If it’s less…I don’t even hesitate.
So I took it on as another DIY project. I stripped the gold trim off and painted the frame black. Is it EXACTLY what I had envisioned? No. But, it works for now and some other month I can drop the extra couple hundred dollars to frame it properly.
So I’m feeling the crunch to finish in just one more week. Let’s see where I am on my list.
Install wall molding
Paint walls white
Paint Vanity
Order Faucets and Install Them (Mr. Handsome)
Order Lighting, paint lighting and Install Them (Mr. Handsome)
Have tile work done (slight change in plan…you’ll have to wait and see)
Order Art and Have it Framed
Install Hanging Lantern
White Wash Shelves and Install Them
Buy hardware and Install It
Spray Paint Shower and Bathtub Faucets
Spray Paint Shower Frame
Style!

Thanks for checking in on my project. I hope you’re smiling.
If I met you in a Home Depot parking lot, with two kids in tow that didn’t want to go back to that store again, and you had flecks of oil rubbed bronze spray paint in your hair, and you were wearing cut off sweats with heeled Michael Kors sandals (because they were closest to the door), and you had a frantic look in your eye, I would so smile a huge smile at you, because you are awesome!
Hmmm…maybe she DID smile at me because I was all cra cra. #ohwell
Have a fantastic day!
