Y’all…this has been the most challenging week for me so far. Not for any decorating dilemma, shopping debacle, or DIY disaster. Nope, the disaster involved my finger and a mandolin…and not the musical instrument kind.
After the mandolin mishap of 2017 (which I’m recovering from nicely) I spent a few days teeter tottering between feeling sorry for myself and being mad at myself for even digging that thing out of storage. Just a word of advice, buy the pre-sliced sweet potato chips in the frozen food section. Sometimes DIY is just a DI Don’t.
Now, on to my progress.
Thankfully my room is pretty much done except for hanging the chandelier which hubby will do for me.
The rug arrived and I love it. When I first unrolled it I second-guessed myself. I think because the space has been without a rug for so long it took my eye a while to adjust to it. It’s a lot of pattern and texture, but I knew I wanted something that wasn’t plain. A good piece of advice is to live with something a day or two before you completely make up your mind about it. Sometimes you just have to get used to it.
The rug is the Handwoven Jute Jagged Chevron rug by NuLoom from Rugs USA.
I found some fun pillows at my local Bealls (which is a Florida based store). They carry a ton of coastal items and you can purchase swimsuits year round. I always walk out of there with something. They have a great online shopping site, I’ll give you the link to their home decor portion of their site. Bealls Home Decor
I know this post was advertised as “How To Finish A Room”. Here’s my big piece of advice for that one…don’t use a mandolin.
Sorry for the short post but next week’s will be full of reveal photos you won’t want to miss. This is my favorite room in the house ever.

So sorry about your mandolin mishap, but so happy to see the progress in the room. It is so obvious that you are working from a true vision and this will make the room spectacular. I do love the new rug —I’d love it even more in my dining room — but that’s for the next makeover. Right? Your plan is coming together beautifully — just stay with your vision. You got this. Can’t wait to the the reveal. Susie from The Chelsea Project

Thanks Susie. I keep coming back to the same things in this room and I am loving the elements put together. Now I’ll just need to carry it through the rest of the open space.

Thanks so much Coco! I think the rug reminds me of those bracelets I used to buy at the beach as a teenager. You know, the ones that look like braided rope? Almost at reveal week!

Nancy, hope your finger won’t take too long to heal. What a horrible thing to happen to you in the midst of all your decor projects. You just go ahead and buy those frozen sweet potato fries from now on!
Your dining room is looking so gorgeous! I just love everything you have done! You have a wonderful gift, Nancy! Your rug is beautiful. I have never seen one like it and it looks so lovely with your dark sofa. Those burlap pillows are so pretty! Everything is coming together so nicely and looks gorgeous. You will be happy to just be finished and be able to enjoy your gorgeous space with your family!
Nancy, you live in such a wonderful part of the world! Enjoy! Have a wonderful week-end!

Thanks Mary-Ann. I’m feeling much better. We had a glorious weekend here on the island with beautiful 70 degree weather. A perfect island weekend to walk around the Shrimp Festival and look at art.
