Zoom! I can’t believe a week has gone by so fast! I’m starting to feel that crunch I have read about during so many previous One Room Challenge posts…the feeling that time is slipping away and there is so much to do.
I must confess I was highly distracted during this past week. We took the little family on a long weekend to Disney World where we had a jolly good ‘ol time at the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.
I had so much fun putting these little outfits together for all of us. The boys were store bought because they both wanted to visually see what they were going to be wearing. My husband’s was pieced together from his own wardrobe with a few ordered pieces and a crazy wig we’ve had in the family for years. The only items I ordered were my hat and that ridiculous corset. The top was a man’s shirt I picked up at Goodwill. After I cut and sewed it up it turned into a great costume element. Just in case you can’t see all the cuteness of those two boys, here’s a little closer view.
Needless to say, I didn’t do any work on the room over the weekend. However, as soon as I arrived home I was back working on it. In fact, my suitcase wasn’t even unpacked when I decided it was time to put up the wallpaper (yes I changed my mind again). This lovely wallpaper from York.
I thought it would be easy to put this wallpaper up over the knock down on my ceiling because there was so much print in the wallpaper.
We put the first strip up and in most places it looked alright, but there were spots where the texture was showing through. Ugh.
Now this is the part where it got all crazy up in here. I tend to jump in with both feet. Why, oh why, am I not one of those patient people who meticulously do all their prep work and start on a project when everything is ‘just perfect’?
I’m sure “those” people don’t have yet to be unpacked suitcases sitting in the next room while they attempt to wallpaper their bathroom ceiling.
So we took the strip of wallpaper down and some of the texture on the ceiling fell off leaving a nice smooth ceiling underneath. I immediately decided to strip the ceiling of the texture. #whatwasithinking
Do I stop and pull out tarps, towels, tape, or any of the usual home project stuff? Nope. I just start scraping until I end the night looking like this.
But, the bright side is now I have a ceiling that looks like this. #awesome
It’s ready for a coat of paint and then the wallpaper can go up. Sometimes it is better to do the job right. Wait, it’s always better to do the job right.
I also had a chance to pop into Hobby Lobby and found the cabinet hardware. This was probably the easiest decision for me to date. You also get a little preview of the paint choices I’m thinking about.
I’m really loving the subtle contrast between a bright white (board and batten) and a more subtle antique white like the Benjamin Moore White Dove color on the top for the walls. I’m not sure if I want to pull the blue/green color in the bathroom or not. My master bedroom ceiling is painted Benjamin Moore Quiet Moments (the 2nd one down). I’m toying with painting the vanity that color. The jury is out on that decision. It will probably be one of the last things I do.
I picked up this rustic nautical looking lantern at Hobby Lobby too. I don’t have a light over my garden tub and thought about having an electrician come out.
But I decided I just wanted the feeling of a light. I’m going to hang this lantern over the tub with some remote control faux candles. Ambiance? I am so NOT a bath person so I have a feeling all the ambiance will be spent on Luke’s night time baths.
Thanks for checking in on my progress! If you want to check out the original pictures and my plans you can look at the previous posts. See you next week!

You crack me up! We have often just jumped into projects too. Not a good thing sometimes, but it looks like it turned out fine. I would like to tell you it was probably a good idea not to call an electrician. If you can touch the fixture while standing in the tub it’s not to code. Yes, mine is not to code, but now I know and if we ever sell the house I can just change the fixture. And remember not to change the lightbulbs while bathing. 😉
I love your choices so far. Have you considered going more dramatic on your vanity? One of the darker colors on your paint chip would be so very pretty.

Thanks Leslie. Ha! No electrocution in this family please. I keep thinking about dark for the vanity also. I keep tossing around so many ideas. Dark with a white wax on top. White with a little dark showing through. The lighter green/blue color. That’s why I’m not going to paint it until the end. Suddenly I’ll just “know”. Do you do that? Suddenly just “see” it? That’s my style of decorating. Not a lot of planning. I’m seeing a pattern here. 🙂

Oh my goodness this cracked me up! The picture of you with ceiling sludge all over is priceless!! I do the same thing. I have ruined all of my clothes because I don’t plan on doing demo or painting or staining, and then I open a can of something and it sprays all over me. I now own the biggest assortment of “paint clothes” because everything is covered in paint! The ceiling looks great. Can’t wait to see more:)

Thanks Teresa! I am definitely not a stop and think about it kind of gal. I’m glad to hear there are others like me. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.
