One Room Challenge: Dining Room Week 1

The One Room Challenge is here! Gosh, I can’t believe how quickly this has come up on my calendar! An overwhelming 80% of you voted to have me participate in the One Room Challenge again and I’m here to tell you…I’m up for the challenge!

Here’s the plan.

I hope it knocks your socks off.

Right?  I know!  The combination of shiplap and oyster plates has me absolutely giddy!  I’m so excited about this one!

Our dining room has the curse of many dining rooms…not ever being used.  It sits there and waits.  We come in the door and it gets all excited because maybe we’ll have a great meal or sit around talking in it.

But we don’t.

We come in and plop down whatever is in our hands on the dining room table and walk on to the kitchen.  Poor dining room.

But this is her lucky day.  I’m creating a dining room that will also serve as my blogging HQ.  I guess she’ll be a doffice.  Here’s what she looks like right now.

I have to say, it NEVER looks like this.

There’s usually mail and kids schoolwork on it.

A dog leash, some  SPF and a Minecraft baseball hat.

This is the bare bones of the dining room.

Plus, I keep referring to her as the glorified hallway.  She’s not actually a “room” more of a designated dining room area.  It is the oddest thing about our floor plan and has made me scratch my head numerous times over the past few years.

You can see above, the hallway leads to the kids’ bedrooms and to the right of the little hutch is our foyer and front door.  Our great room is really an “L” shape with our living room and kitchen on the bottom part of the L.

Another bad thing going for it…no windows.  It’s dark and the gold/beige paint isn’t helping.  When the sun does shine in the living room windows the whole house kinda glows gold.  I’m going to bring in a healthy dose of white into this space to make it lighter and brighter and add some black for drama.

If that doesn’t work, eventually we will have to put in skylights.  I’m trying to avoid that though since so many times they end up leaking years later.
