It’s here! It’s here! It’s here! If you are visiting from one of the other tours…welcome. I’m so happy you’re here. My name is Nancy and I blog from Florida where I am working on making our builder grade home more special.
I’m thrilled to share my fall living room as part of the French Country Fall Tour put together by the amazing photographer and blogger, Janet, from Shabbyfufu.
What makes this even better is it was in collaboration with Soft Surroundings. When I heard this news…I think I screamed. I obsess over their gorgeous catalog dreaming of all the amazing places I will go in their stylish clothes and dream about using their home décor items to decorate my home. They were generous enough to supply me with a lovely gift card and amazing discount to shop their catalog. Holy dream come true!
Then, as the cherry on top of the Sunday, Romantic Homes Magazine partnered up with us to feature our fall tours on their web site. I think I fainted. I have poured over their magazines studying all the amazing spaces for years.
I’m pretty sure I drove everyone crazy in my real life debating, discussing, and generally obsessing about what it was I wanted from Soft Surroundings.
Have you ever gone shopping with an indecisive friend who just can’t make up her mind and you feel like grabbing a Salted Caramel Latte and camping out at a table until she can make a decision? Yep. I was that indecisive woman for about two weeks…poor family.
When pre-football season kicked off this year, we were sitting with a group of friends talking about watching football as kids. When I was in high school I loved Sunday afternoons in Minnesota as my parents put on the Vikings football game. We had nowhere to go and nothing to do.
We lived in a big two story farmhouse where the wind whipped across the barren fields making the house feel cool. Every Sunday I would grab the afghan my mother knitted and lay down on the rug in the living room in just the right spot so the sunlight shining through the large bay window would warm me. I would always nap like a lazy cat lying in the sun with the sounds of football and the smell of a roast in the oven wafting through the air. It’s my memory of “home”.
As I reflected on this memory I realized my boys never lay on the floor in this Florida home. This home, covered in tile with a sensible yet uncomfortable outdoor rug in the living room, isn’t conducive to cozy. I knew immediately I wanted to soften this space for them and make it feel more like a home.
I wanted a soft rug. I wanted a rug that would encourage lazy Sundays and found it in the Samraja Rug. Made of wool, this dense rug has changed our lives. As soon as I unrolled it, both boys sprawled out on it and rolled around with the dog. Mission accomplished.
The colors are so beautiful. There is a lovely mix of beige and gray with a blue undertone which I adore because mixing beige and gray is one of my favorite combinations. It has a beautiful knap that makes the rug look a darker gray one direction and a lighter gray from the other side.
It also has beautiful accents of teal and coral. The pattern makes it very family friendly yet it isn’t so overpowering that it takes away from the rest of the décor. It is the perfect combination of color and pattern for my space.
Pulling inspiration from the rug, I repainted my little thrift store French Table.
I also repainted my shutters pulling in some of the olive color and using some of the teal to dry brush them. You can see how they looked before HERE.
Hubby came home the other night with these gorgeous hydrangeas and I quickly found a spot for them in this room. Fresh flowers are such a treat. They’re not something I always keep in the house but it feels so special when I do.
It wouldn’t be fall if I didn’t pull out this old pumpkin. I’ve had it for so many years that my oldest thinks it has to be some part of our decor every fall. He is a creature of habit.
I’ll finish this little tour with one more picture of my beautiful hydrangeas. Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to visit all the other stops on this amazing fall tour by clicking on the links below. Happy fall y’all!
