I’m so excited to be a part of this months Fab Flippin’ Furniture contest. The contest is held every month by some incredible bloggers (pictured below) who are masters of taking ho-hum furniture and turning it into something fantastic. The winner of the contest receives a prize from the sponsoring company.
This months sponsor is an incredible paint company from the Netherlands, Pure and Original Paint. As part of entering this contest, Pure and Original sent me two paint colors of my choice to work on a piece of furniture (see disclosure) and I receive a small commission from your purchase but all opinions…and work are my own. 🙂
So without further delay…here she is!
I adore this blue color. It is exactly what it says…Barbados blue. Can’t you just picture the water? You can purchase your own can of Barbados Blue paint from the Pure and Original website.
I kept the original hardware but just gave it a quick spray paint of a glossy black. I love the contrast. The original was a brass color.
I styled it with some coastal elements. The combination of the rich color and the coastal pops just make the room such a cheery space. I went out into the yard and cut some palm fronds and placed them in a glass bowl I picked up at the local thrift. These grow wild in our yard and we are constantly cutting them back.
I was so lucky to come across this dresser. It was exactly what I was looking for in this room and at $60 for an original Henredon, how could I go wrong?
It has just the right amount of storage to hold all the video games and accessories. It has really been a game changer in this room (total meant to do that pun).
The Pure and Original paint took a little bit of adjustment on my part. The first coat didn’t cover as much as I was used to with other paint. But it dried showing no brush marks and dried really quickly. The second coat gave a lot more coverage and if I wanted a more rustic look I could’ve stopped right there. But I wanted a solid paint surface for this space so I gave it a third coat and it completely covered. The interesting part of this paint is that it dries to a really, really matte finish and doesn’t require any waxing or sealer. The second color I received from them was black and I thought it would dry brush really well. I was right. I dry brushed some blue shutters I had and it dry brushes beautifully. It is hard to tell which paint is coming from underneath, the blue, or the black.
What kind of furniture makeover would this be if I didn’t show you the before? The change is pretty dramatic. Never overlook an outdated piece of furniture at a thrift store because it’s beauty is just waiting to be revealed.
Be sure to click on over to see what the other contestants created with their Pure and Original paint. You can do this by heading over to Thirty Eighth Street or Anastasia Vintage. If you are a blogger and would like to be a part of the monthly contest, you can e-mail the gals over at the Fab Flippin’ Furniture Contest (info@fabflippinfurniturecontest.com)
